Job summary

Sun Life is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Reporting Analyst to join the NAIC Financial Reporting team. This full-time role (40 hours/week) reports to the Director, NAIC Reporting and focuses on timely NAIC statements and audited financials in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Hybrid with 2 office days; shift 3:30 pm–12:00 am (flexible 5:30 pm–2 am). The role emphasizes collaboration, strong accounting knowledge, and cross-functional coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Experience in financial reporting and NAIC reporting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and statutory reporting.
• Proficiency with MS Excel and documentation.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and meet deadlines.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated Financial Reporting Analyst to join the NAIC Financial Reporting team. This full-time position (40 hours/week) has a dotted line to the Director, NAIC Reporting and plays a critical role in the production of timely and accurate NAIC statements and audited financials. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities effectively, and demonstrate strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit quarterly and annual NAIC statements and supplementary filings with accuracy and timeliness
• Prepare statutory audited financial statements and related supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable reporting requirements
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to collect data, resolve issues, and ensure deadlines are met
• Identify opportunities to enhance reporting processes through standardization, improved documentation, and workflow efficiencies
• Support ad hoc projects and initiatives related to financial reporting and audits as needed

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of relevant job experience
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with comfort working with data, reconciliations, and reporting detail
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Self-starter with strong initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across functions
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Reliable and conscientious approach to deadline-driven work

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Insurance and/or financial services industry experience
• In-depth knowledge of NAIC statutory accounting principles
• Experience working in medium-to-large organizations with multiple divisions
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel and Word)
• Familiarity with Workiva, StatementPro, and SAP
