Job description

Job Description - Assistant Manager, Public Relations (Integrated Communications Division)
Role Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our Integrated Communications division with 4-6 years of experience in public relations. The right candidate manages client mandates independently, builds and sustains media relationships that deliver results, and writes with the quality and speed that earned media demands. Beyond core PR execution, this role requires a meaningful working ability in crisis communications - the capacity to read a situation early, draft under pressure, co-ordinate a response across teams, and protect a client's reputation when it matters most. Experience managing listed entities, pre-IPO campaigns, or clients with high reputational exposure is an advantage.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and execute public relations campaigns that are aligned with client communication objectives and agency commitments - managing timelines, third parties, and internal stakeholders to deliver without being chased.
  • Build, maintain, and segment media lists by beat, publication tier, and geography. Cultivate active relationships with journalists - not just contact databases - so that outreach lands and responses come back.
  • Draft press releases, bylines, blogs, media responses, Q&As, and client-facing documents to a standard that requires minimal revision. Write clearly and with speed across formats - a 300-word press note and a 1,200-word authored article require different muscles; this role needs both.
  • Conduct proactive media outreach with a clear pitch rationale - not blast emails - and manage inbound queries with speed and accuracy. Know when to respond, when to hold, and when to elevate to a senior team member or the client.
  • Maintain a current understanding of the earned media landscape - publication shifts, journalist moves, new beats, changing editorial priorities - and translate that knowledge into smarter targeting and stronger placements.
  • Monitor the news and digital environment for early signals of risk to clients - adverse coverage, regulatory shifts, competitor activity, sector stress events - and alert the team before issues surface publicly. In a crisis or high-sensitivity moment, shift from proactive PR to reactive and protective mode without waiting to be asked.
  • Manage day-to-day client deliverables - coverage trackers, news digests, meeting notes, activity reports - with the rigour and consistency that builds client confidence over time.
  • Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly reports on time, with analysis that goes beyond coverage counts - quality of placement, message pull-through, share of voice, and what the data means for the next period.
  • Support crisis communications when mandated - draft holding statements, prepare spokesperson Q&As, co-ordinate media response timelines, and maintain composure and accuracy when the situation is moving fast. Contribute to pre-crisis preparedness work including scenario mapping, response playbooks, and dark-site content for clients in high-exposure sectors.
  • Identify and pursue relevant awards, rankings, and speaker platforms for clients. Draft briefing documents, speaker notes, and event-specific communications that are sharp, accurate, and delivered before they are requested.
  • Track client, competitor, and industry developments continuously and share timely, contextualised updates - not raw news alerts, but intelligence that helps clients and the team stay ahead.
Key Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English - precise, fast, and adaptable across formats. Press notes, op-eds, holding statements, and client emails all require a different register; the ability to shift between them without losing quality is non-negotiable at this level.
  • Strategic thinking applied to narrative - the ability to identify what the story is, why it matters to a specific journalist or audience, and how to position it so it gets picked up rather than ignored.
  • Rigorous attention to detail and strong ownership of deliverables - in PR, an error in a quote, a wrong figure, or a missed deadline reaches a journalist. This role requires the discipline to get it right the first time.
  • Crisis communications readiness - a working understanding of how crises unfold, how holding statements are structured, how media response timelines work, and how to support a client who is under pressure without amplifying the panic. Exposure to an actual crisis situation, however junior, is valued.
  • Composure under pressure and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple clients without losing accuracy or professionalism. Collaborative within the team; reliable to the client.
  • Genuine curiosity about the industries and clients they work on - the kind that leads someone to read beyond the brief, follow the sector, and bring a perspective to client conversations rather than just execute instructions.
Qualification and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field. Strong writing skills matter more than the specific degree.
  • 4-6 years in public relations, ideally in an agency environment managing multiple clients. Experience with listed companies, pre-IPO mandates, or clients in high-scrutiny sectors is an advantage. Demonstrated involvement in at least one crisis or issues management situation, even in a supporting capacity, is valued.
