Job summary

WSP India invites an Assistant GIS Consultant to support geospatial project delivery, data preparation, analysis, and presentation. You’ll follow established processes while contributing ideas to improve efficiency and quality.

You will work with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, and MS 365 tools, ensuring accurate outputs within timelines and budgets. Teamwork and independent initiative are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related geospatial discipline.
  • 3+ years of demonstrable GIS experience or closely related technical field.
  • Strong data management, geoprocessing, and QA focus required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day GIS support across project teams and business functions.
  • Perform GIS mapping, data capture, editing, conversion (vector/raster), georeferencing, and geoprocessing in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Build and maintain project geodatabases per project standards with metadata.
  • Produce high-quality maps, figures, drawings, and charts for proposals and reports.
  • Assist with web GIS (ArcGIS Online/ArcGIS Enterprise): data publishing and field solutions.
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure geospatial accuracy of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support overseas/remote GIS staff coordination.

Job Description

As an Assistant GIS Consultant in WSP’s Transformation & Digital Insights team, you will support project delivery across a range of geospatial tasks. You’ll assist with data preparation, management, analysis, and presentation— producing accurate, high‑quality outputs that meet timelines, budgets, and client expectations. Working within an established team, you’ll follow defined processes while contributing your own initiative and ideas to improve efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day GIS support across project teams and business functions.
  • Perform GIS mapping, data capture, editing, conversion (vector/raster), georeferencing, and geoprocessing in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Build and maintain project geodatabases per project standards; ensure directory structures and metadata are maintained.
  • Produce high‑quality maps, figures, drawings, and charts for proposals and reports following QA standards.
  • Assist with web GIS (ArcGIS Online/ArcGIS Enterprise): data publishing, item management, and field solutions (Field Maps, Survey123).
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure geospatial and content accuracy of deliverables.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain and improve skills.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support overseas/remote GIS staff coordination.
Essential Skills
  • Strong grasp of GIS fundamentals: projections/coordinate systems, datums, vector vs raster, topology.
  • Hands‑on with ArcGIS Pro and core ArcGIS tools; familiarity with AGOL/ArcGIS Enterprise concepts.
  • Competent in data capture, digitising, attribution, editing, symbology, and layout design.
  • Basic data management discipline: folder structures, metadata, versioning, naming conventions, QA checks.
  • Experience with common UK datasets (or regional equivalents) and authoritative data sourcing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); clear written and verbal communication.
  • Customer‑focused, self‑motivated, able to work independently with minimal oversight, and a strong team player.
Desirable Skills
  • Exposure to QGIS, CAD, and other open‑source tools.
  • Introductory Python (ArcPy), ModelBuilder or FME for repeatable workflows.
  • Basic SQL and spatial queries; understanding of relational database concepts.
  • International project exposure; experience with UK datasets and authoritative data sourcing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in GIS, Geography, or a related geospatial discipline.
  • 3+ years of demonstrable experience working in GIS or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrated interest in emerging geospatial technologies and continuous learning.

  • Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification (“BGV”) check conducted by a third‑party agency appointed by WSP India.
