Job summary

A leading FMCG company is seeking an Area Sales Manager located in Ludhiana or Jalandhar. The candidate will be responsible for sales planning, team management, and distributor management in the Chandigarh, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh markets. Ideal candidates will have over 8 years of experience in FMCG channel sales, including a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role. Position Name: Area Sales Manager

Location: Ludhiana/ Jalandhar

Covering Market: Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh


Role & responsibilities
1. Sales Planning & Target Achievement
  • Prepare and execute monthly/quarterly sales plans to achieve assigned volume and value targets.
  • Forecast sales and ensure timely stock availability in the market.
  • Monitor sales trends and take corrective actions to achieve goals.
2. Team Management
  • Lead and motivate Sales Officers / Territory Sales Executives to deliver on KPIs.
  • Conduct regular market visits with team members for coaching and performance tracking.
  • Provide training on sales techniques, product knowledge, and market execution standards.
3. Distributor & Channel Management
  • Appoint, onboard, and manage distributors in the assigned geography.
  • Ensure distributors maintain adequate inventory, timely order placement, and on-time payment.
  • Conduct distributor reviews to assess sales growth, ROI, and compliance with company policies.
4. Market Execution & Visibility
  • Implement trade marketing programs, schemes, and promotions to drive brand visibility.
  • Ensure planogram compliance, shelf space visibility, and POSM placement.
  • Expand market reach by increasing retail coverage in both urban and rural areas.
5. Market Intelligence & Competition Tracking
  • Monitor competitor activities and report insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Identify market opportunities, gaps, and threats in the territory.
6. Reporting & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate MIS, sales reports, and market feedback.
  • Ensure adherence to company SOPs, pricing policies, and legal compliance.
Must-Have Requirements:
  • Graduate in any discipline (MBA in Sales/Marketing preferred).
  • 8+ years(min 3 years as Manager) of experience in FMCG channel sales, with at least 3 years in a supervisory/ASM role.
  • Strong distributor and retail channel management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead a sales team and achieve targets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.
