Job summary

Vanguard’s India office in Hyderabad seeks a Backend Engineer with strong Python and/or Node.js skills to design, develop, and support scalable backend services and APIs. You will work on data integration and event-driven applications, aligned with business goals and security standards.

You will collaborate in an Agile environment, participate in CI/CD practices, and contribute to a growing cloud-native architecture that supports financial services capabilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, system integration, database design, and backend architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Computer Science or Master’s/Diploma in CS.
• 5-8 years of professional software development experience.
• Proven experience in full-stack development, ideally with Python and/or Node.js.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, etc.).
• Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience in Agile delivery environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub/GitHub Actions.

Responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders to ensure solutions align with business outcomes.
• Translate requirements into analytical approaches and execute to completion.
• Work with the tech lead to develop solutions respecting security and architecture standards.

Role Summary

• We are looking for a Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python and/or Node.js and hands-on experience building cloud-native applications on AWS. The role focuses on designing, developing, and supporting scalable backend services, APIs, data integration solutions, and event-driven applications that enable critical business capabilities.

Core Responsibilities:

• Engage with business stakeholders and other team members to ensure solutions are aligned to business outcomes.
• Brings structure to business requests, translates requirements into an analytical approach, and executes through to completion.
• Works with the technical lead and the team to develop solutions, ensuring alignment to security and architectural standards.
• Understands Vanguard's tools, technologies, applications, and processes.
• Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Provides support to other team members in building skills and improving engineering practices.

Qualifications And Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, system integration, database design, and back-end architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, or a Master’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science.
• 5-8 years of professional experience in software development
• Proven experience in full-stack development, ideally with Python and/or Node.JS
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services, including (but not limited to):
• CloudFormation, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, Glue ETL, API Gateway, IAM, SQS, SNS, Athena, DMS and DataSync
• Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases
• Experience working within an Agile delivery environment
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, particularly using GitHub and GitHub Actions
• A growth mindset, with a strong willingness to learn and continuously improve
• A collaborative team player with a positive, proactive attitude

Skills and Experiences that will make an impact

• Experience working in financial services industry
• Experience around web technologies
• Data engineering/Design experience (2+ years’ experience)
• Hands on technical expertise in Python
• Ability to define and develop data integration patterns and pipelines
