Job summary

3M in Bengaluru is seeking an Application Engineer to join the R&D and engineering team. You will work with global Application Engineering, Product Development, Sales and Marketing to craft and replicate high-impact electronics applications.

Responsibilities include understanding customer needs, testing results, and communicating outcomes to the team. You will lead launch support, develop training materials, and contribute to competitive insights, with 25-35% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in engineering with Electronics / Materials science / Chemistry / Physics as major.
• Minimum 5 years in R&D, preferably applications engineering, with at least 2 years in a customer-facing electronics role.
• Experience with tapes, adhesives, conductive materials, TIM; knowledge of die-cutting and slitting a plus.
• Exploratory mindset and ability to identify new applications and customer pain points.
• Good understanding of IP protocols and procedures.

• Advise on lab infrastructure and equipment for projects; coordinate procurement with engineering.
• Train 3M teams and distributors; develop e-tools to boost sales productivity.

• Working with global Application Engineering, Product Development, Sales and Marketing personnel to develop and replicate high impact applications for consumer electronics.
• Identifying the best 3M solution for an application by thoroughly understanding customer needs, testing, and trial results. Communicate results to customers and global application engineering team through written reports and presentations.
• Represent the entire range of 3M portfolio for Display and Electronics to our customers, through presentations, training, conferences and other technical interactions.
• Providing launch support for new product programs by generating supporting documentation, demonstration tools, videos, and training materials.
• Building a deep understanding of customer needs and competition for the electronics market and provide "Voice of Customer," new product ideas and competitive analysis.
• Specify 3M products at key OEM's and Tiers on engineering drawings and provide support required to transition business to manufacturing locations throughout zones, regions, and subsidiaries.
• Recommend lab infrastructure to support business plans, plan for equipment, inputs for lab capex planning, work with engineering for procurement of equipment by providing the right specification.
• Provide training to 3M teams, distributors, online training, field / shop floor training to customers for proper use of 3M solutions, preparing training calendar and training modules, feedback and other documentations, etc. Devise ways to use e-tools to help the sales team to improve productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in engineering from any reputed institution/ University with Electronics / Materials science/ Chemistry / Physics as the major subject.
• Minimum of 5 years of work experience in R&D, preferably applications engineering, with at least 2 years' experience in customer-facing role in the electronics industry.
• Experience with tapes, adhesives, conductive materials, TIM, etc., and knowledge in converting processes like die-cutting and slitting would be an advantage.
• Exploratory mindset and aptitude to identify new applications, new opportunities and customer pain areas and value selling.
• Good understanding about IP protocols and procedures.
• Should be a team player, able to plan and work independently with minimum supervision.
• Should be able to network effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers and should have good customer account management skills.
• Strong analytical, presentation and communication skills.
• Experience with creating collateral materials, such as digital content and other demonstration tools for electronics applications.

This role requires about 25-35% domestic travel.
