Job summary

DAZN in Hyderabad is seeking an Android Engineer to join our Technology team. You will build and maintain Android applications using Kotlin, MVVM, and Jetpack Compose, delivering scalable media experiences.

You will collaborate with product, design, QA, and backend teams, work on REST APIs, and optimize performance for streaming workloads in OTT environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on with Android development practices (MVVM, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flows).
• Experience in video streaming or media platforms is preferred, esp. playback/OTT workflows.
• Strong Kotlin/Android fundamentals; ability to learn new tech and read existing code.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Android apps using Kotlin.
• Understand the Android app lifecycle, activities, fragments, and components.
• Apply MVVM and follow established coding practices.
• Develop UI using XML and/or Jetpack Compose.
• Manage UI state and asynchronous operations with Kotlin Coroutines/Flow.
• Use dependency injection (Hilt or Dagger).

• Read and troubleshoot existing Kotlin/Java code.
• Debug crashes, logs, and performance issues.

Description

We are seeking a strong expertise in Android application ecosystems to bridge business requirements and technical delivery. The ideal candidate has hands-on knowledge of modern Android development practices (MVVM, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flows) and the ability to translate functional needs into scalable solutions. Experience in video streaming or media platforms is preferred, especially in playback workflows or OTT environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Android applications using Kotlin.
• Understand and work with the Android app lifecycle, activities, fragments, and common Android components.
• Work with basic Android architecture patterns such as MVVM and follow established coding practices.
• Develop UI using XML and/or Jetpack Compose.
• Understand and implement UI state management and basic component behaviour.
• Work with Kotlin Coroutines and basic Flow concepts for asynchronous operations.
• Work with dependency injection using Hilt or Dagger.
• Integrate Android applications with REST APIs and JSON.
• Read and understand existing Kotlin/Java code and troubleshoot basic issues.
• Debug application crashes, logs, and common performance issues.
• Work with Git for source control and follow standard development workflows.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, bug fixing, and release activities.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Basic understanding of MVVM / Clean Architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose is preferred.
• Exposure to RxJava or reactive programming is an advantage.
• Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Figma, Postman, Firebase/Crashlytics, and analytics tools.
• Basic understanding of CI/CD processes and Android application release cycles.
• Exposure to video streaming or OTT applications is a plus.
• Familiarity with ExoPlayer/Media3, HLS, DASH, or DRM is an added advantage, but not mandatory.

• Good fundamentals in Kotlin and Android development.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to understand existing code and learn new technologies.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
