Job summary

Maersk is seeking an experienced engineer to operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems at our Chennai-area facility, supervising equipment such as compressors, pumps and condensers. The role emphasizes safe, reliable operation and accurate record-keeping.

You will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, diagnose faults, and work with PLC-based controls. Experience reading P&IDs and drawings is required, with contractor supervision during shutdowns and major tasks.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years in industrial ammonia refrigeration
• Experience in food processing, cold storage, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, or industrial plants preferred

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor ammonia refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and related equipment.
• Carry out preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance per schedule.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults in refrigeration equipment.
• Monitor system parameters: pressure, temperature, oil levels, refrigerant, compressor performance.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify leaks, vibrations, and defects.
• Ensure compliance with ammonia handling procedures and safety regulations.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and operating parameters.
• Supervise contractors during shutdowns, overhauls, and major maintenance activities.
• Ensure availability of critical spare parts and maintain inventory records.
• Participate in emergency response for ammonia leakage or equipment failure.
• Implement energy-saving and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and company safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor ammonia refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and associated equipment.
• Carry out preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities as per the maintenance schedule.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults in refrigeration equipment.
• Monitor system parameters such as pressure, temperature, oil levels, refrigerant levels, and compressor performance.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify leaks, abnormal vibrations, and equipment defects.
• Ensure compliance with ammonia handling procedures and safety regulations.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and operating parameters.
