Job summary

Kuku AI Studio in Mumbai seeks a screenwriter who can translate a story skeleton into precise, executable episode briefs for an AI-driven production pipeline. Your writing will be the creative specification feeding an AI Director and AI Architect, converting emotion, stakes, and arc into machine-ready scripts.

You must be fluent in Hindi and English and bring a background in screenwriting or creative writing with a strong portfolio.

• Produce dialogue that passes two tests simultaneously: it must work as audio alone for a viewer who is not watching, and it must carry full subtext for a viewer who is watching but not listening.

Overview

Kuku AI Studio is building the world's first large-scale AI-native microdrama production house. We produce short‑form shows for hundreds of millions of viewers who watch on their phones during commutes, breaks, and other short windows. Every show starts with a story skeleton. The AI Writer builds that skeleton and fills it with emotional architecture that the rest of the production pipeline can execute. This is not a conventional screenwriting role: you will not write in isolation and hand off a finished script. Instead you will work as part of a production pipeline where your output feeds directly into an AI Director and AI Architect pair who generate the show from your brief. Your writing is the creative specification for a machine, and it must be precise enough to be executed and emotionally true enough to be felt.

Key Responsibilities

Story Skeleton to Script

• Read and internalise the adapted story skeleton, character wounds, base emotion, identity threats, setting symbolism, arc structure and translate that into episode‑level decisions.
• Develop full episode beat sheets covering every episode's hook, plot advancement, key emotional beat, close type, and the single question the audience is left with.
• Write episode briefs that are compressed, precise, and immediately executable by an AI Architect without requiring creative interpretation.
• Produce dialogue that passes two tests simultaneously: it must work as audio alone for a viewer who is not watching, and it must carry full subtext for a viewer who is watching but not listening.

Emotional Architecture

• Place paywalls correctly at peak emotional injustice or identity threat, never at a plot reveal.
• Design cliffhangers that leave the audience with an emotional question they cannot bear to leave unanswered—a plot question, not an emotional one.
• Calibrate the cliffhanger‑to‑satisfying‑close ratio across a season; too many consecutive cliffhangers create fatigue, not urgency.
• Write dialogue that differentiates every character by voice alone; no two characters in this show should be interchangeable when their lines are read without attribution.

Pipeline And Collaboration

• Brief the AI Director on the emotional intent of each episode before they begin visual execution; your brief is their creative specification.
• Review AI‑generated episode output against your intended emotional architecture and flag structural mismatches to the Creative Producer.
• Stay ahead of the director pairs; scripts must be ready before the production window opens, not during it.

What We Are Looking For

• A background in screenwriting, content writing, or creative writing; formal training is a plus but a strong portfolio matters more.
• Genuine understanding of what makes someone stop scrolling; you have watched enough microdrama or serialised fiction to know the difference between a hook that works and one that explains itself.
• The ability to write emotion without stating it; your characters should never explain what they feel in dialogue.
• Speed under pressure: you need to be productive at volume without losing quality.
• Fluency in Hindi and English; many of our shows are multilingual and cultural register accuracy is non‑negotiable.
• Curiosity about AI as a creative tool: you will be writing for an AI pipeline, which means understanding what an AI can and cannot do with the brief you give it.
