Job summary

Bayer is seeking an AI Engineer specializing in Generative AI and agentic architectures within the SAP S/4HANA ecosystem. You will design, build, and deploy AI agents, Joule extensions, and LLM-driven solutions to automate SAP business processes with minimal human interaction.

You will leverage Claude, GPT, Gemini, SAP Joule Studio, and the SAP Generative AI Hub to create scalable agentic solutions, ensuring clean core architecture and responsible AI governance across SAP workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
• 2+ years focused on Generative AI application development and/or agentic AI architectures.
• Deep hands-on experience with LLMs (Claude, GPT, Gemini) including prompt engineering and multi-turn reasoning.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI agents that autonomously orchestrate SAP S/4HANA business processes with minimal human intervention.

AI Engineer - SAP S/4HANA (GenAI, Agents

POSITION PURPOSE:

We are seeking an AI Engineer specializing in Generative AI and agentic architectures within the SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ecosystem. This role designs, builds, and deploys AI agents, Joule extensions, and LLM-driven solutions that make SAP business processes conversational, autonomous, and intelligently automated.

You will leverage foundation models (Claude, GPT, Gemini), SAP Joule, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and the Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol to create solutions that reason, plan, and act across SAP workflows — interoperating with external agent ecosystems while adhering to Clean Core principles and Responsible AI governance.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and build AI agents that autonomously orchestrate SAP S/4HANA business processes using multi-step reasoning, tool use via A2A and MCP protocols limiting human interaction to the bare minimum.
• Develop SAP Joule extensions using Joule Studio — creating custom skills, domain-specific agents, and conversational interfaces for natural language interaction with SAP data and transactions.
• Integrate and orchestrate foundation models (Claude, GPT, Gemini) via SAP Generative AI Hub — managing prompt engineering, model routing, guardrails, and agentic orchestration for production-grade deployments.
• Implement MCP-based tool-use patterns giving AI agents secure access to SAP systems — wrapping released APIs and OData services as MCP-consumable tools via the Integration Suite MCP Gateway.
• Build A2A-compliant multi-agent architectures enabling bidirectional communication between Joule, custom BTP agents, and external platforms.
• Establish prompt engineering standards, evaluation frameworks, and Responsible AI guardrails (hallucination mitigation, grounding validation, PII handling, audit trails).
• Explore and pilot emerging SAP AI capabilities (Joule Studio 2.0, SAP AI Agent Hub, ABAP AI agentic features) and provide adoption recommendations.
• Collaborate with SAP Lead Developers and Solution Architects to ensure AI solutions align with Clean Core architecture and the broader S/4HANA landscape.
• Mentor development teams on generative AI, prompt engineering, agentic design patterns, and AI-augmented workflows.

WHO YOU ARE:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years focused on Generative AI application development and/or agentic AI architectures.
• Deep hands-on experience with LLMs (Claude, GPT, Gemini) — including prompt engineering, function/tool calling, structured outputs, and multi-turn reasoning.
• Proven experience building agentic AI systems using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, or SAP-native orchestration — with strong understanding of MCP and A2A protocols.
• Working knowledge of SAP BTP AI services — Generative AI Hub, AI Core, Joule Studio, SAP Build, and Integration Suite.
• Solid understanding of SAP S/4HANA architecture, data models, released APIs, and business processes in at least one functional domain (Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, or Order-to-Cash).
• Strong understanding of AI safety and governance — hallucination mitigation, content moderation, agent access control, and observability.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate business processes into agentic workflows and demonstrate AI value to non-technical stakeholders.
• Growth mindset with passion for rapid prototyping and staying current with AI advancements and the SAP AI roadmap.
