eGov Foundation’s Innovation Lab seeks an AI Engineer to build and evaluate prototypes leveraging foundation models and GenAI techniques. You will work closely with the AI Tech Lead to turn experiment briefs into working demos, while ensuring code quality and reproducibility.
Freshers welcome with 0–2 years of experience, strong CS fundamentals, and a passion for public sector impact. The role involves collaboration across the team and continuous learning in applied AI and govtech.
The Innovation Lab applies and adapts AI to accelerate work across eGov’s spectrum of products and platform — DIGIT and the products built on it, including DIGIT HCM (Health Campaign Management). The Lab runs a continuous pipeline of experiments, taking validated problems through bounded prototypes to capabilities that eGov’s product teams can adopt. It applies foundation models and modern GenAI techniques to gov tech problems rather than building models from scratch.
The AI Engineer is a hands‑on builder in the Lab. Working closely with the AI Tech Lead, the engineer turns experiment ideas into working prototypes, runs evaluations, and helps build the reusable components and harnesses that keep the Lab fast — following sound engineering discipline throughout. This is an early‑career role for a fast learner who is fluent with modern AI tools and eager to grow, with depth built through pairing, code review and bounded experiments across applied AI, engineering craft and the gov tech domain.
1. Foundations: 0–2 years of experience; freshers welcome. Strong computer‑science fundamentals — data structures, algorithms and clean coding practice. A degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent demonstrable ability.
2. Applied AI (core): Hands‑on experience building with LLMs and modern AI tools — through work, internships, academic, hackathon or personal projects. Familiarity with prompting, LLM APIs and at least one AI/GenAI framework. Comfortable using AI‑assisted development tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as part of everyday building.
3. Programming: Strong in at least one language, with Python preferred for AI work. Exposure to web or full‑stack development; willingness to work across the DIGIT stack (Java, React, Flutter) is an advantage.
4. SDLC and engineering craft: Good grasp of the software development lifecycle — Git and collaborative development, code review, automated testing (unit and integration) and CI/CD basics — with care for documentation and reproducibility.
5. Communication: Strong written and verbal communication; able to explain what was built and why, and to collaborate effectively within a small team.
6. Disposition: Fast learner; curious, resourceful, and able to work with minimal supervision. Interest in public sector, development sector, global health or govtech is a plus.
Position Type: Full Time
Reports to: AI Tech Lead — Innovation Lab
Department: AI & Innovation Lab
Experience: 0–2 years (freshers welcome)
