Advanced Oilfield Chemicals Engineer (MIC Specialist)
Location: Bangalore, KA, IN, 560066
Company Name: ExxonMobil
What role you will play in our team
ExxonMobil is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to provide oilfield chemistry technical support and expertise to its oil and gas production, refining and chemicals operations and projects. The candidate will work within ExxonMobil’s Materials Engineering team in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company, based at the Bengaluru Campus (Prestige Shantiniketan) in India. Responsibilities include working with multi-discipline teams to execute, establish, and improve oilfield chemistry related work processes, solutions, and recommendations, specifically in the MIC (Microbially Influenced Corrosion) space.
The candidate will lead the development, execution, and optimization of global Oilfield Chemical (OFC) programs, including asset integrity, flow assurance, and production/process optimization. Primary responsibilities include identifying and managing downside risks and upside opportunities related to biological growth, inorganic scale, wax, asphaltenes, corrosion, calcium naphthenate, emulsions, oxygen and H2S scavengers, hydrates in production operations, and water treatment.
What you will do:
- Knowledgeable in microbial processes to support ExxonMobil’s asset integrity program by leading advanced detection, monitoring, and mitigation efforts in microbial induced corrosion of steel infrastructure.
- Develop technical scope of work and define associated chemical requirements for evaluation and selection of new or replacement oilfield chemicals, considering safety, environmental impact, and performance effects.
- Develop and optimize chemical treatment programs and methods to meet asset integrity and production goals.
- Participate in designing the matrix and protocol for Oilfield chemical lab qualification, interpret data, and participate in technology transfers.
- Develop and optimize chemical monitoring programs to monitor and surveil both chemical delivery and performance for integrity, flow assurance, and process operations in oil and gas production, water injection, utilities, and produced water re‑injection and disposal.
- Serve as Oilfield Chemicals Subject Matter Expert (SME) and engage with chemical supplier personnel to review proposals and provide revised or new recommendations as needed.
- Lead and coordinate interfaces between asset engineering, operations, suppliers, procurement, and project teams to converge on optimized chemical program solutions, troubleshoot, and support management of change as needed.
- Lead the design, execution, and analysis of field validation trials and pilot programs for new or optimized chemical treatments, ensuring alignment with operational KPIs and regulatory standards.
- Develop and optimize tools, templates, procedures, and other resources underpinning the work area. Support implementation of digitalization and methods to better visualize program effectiveness and cost management.
- Leverage global SME network, steward lessons learned, and manage knowledge‑management platforms.
- Transfer lessons learned and best practices across sites.
- Lead or participate in TSA (Total System Analysis) and CMT (Chemical Management Team) activities, influencing multi‑disciplinary teams to enhance asset performance.
- Support planning and budgeting for OFC Program enhancements in purchasing, logistics, treatment rates, and supply management.
- Support contract administration, reporting, and stewardship activities, such as coordinating with contract owners and administrators on quarterly meetings, tracking contract administration KPIs, evaluating chemical contractor performance, providing feedback to improve contractor capabilities, and resolving gaps.
- Provide technical mentoring and continuous on‑the‑job guidance to develop early‑career engineers.
- Continuously stay abreast of latest developments in industry standards and practices, bringing learnings to challenge and improve company work processes and technology.
- Influence decision making in OFC research and/or technology development.
