Job summary

Better is building an AI-native home finance platform, and our Accounting team seeks an Accounting Manager to own month-end close, GL entries, and reconciliations. You will partner across departments to close the books accurately under U.S.

GAAP, impacting Better’s P&L with practical financial insights. The ideal candidate has 5–7 years of accounting experience, at least 1 year in a managerial role, and strong Excel/Netsuite skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in accounting or finance is required.
• 5–7 years of experience in an accounting firm or in-house at a company.
• At least 1 year of management experience.
• Experienced knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Adaptable to frequent changes in business environment.
• Proficient with Excel (large data sets, sumifs, index/match, vlookups).
• Experience with Netsuite is a plus.
• Experience working at a public company is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Drive the month end close process as a key part of the accounting team by taking ownership of certain tasks, expenses, revenue, and payroll sections of the P&L.
• Create and review journal entries in the GL along with preparing and reviewing supporting schedules.
• Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations including investigating aged or unreconciled items.
• Investigate and resolve issues with various transaction types.
• Implement accounting processes for new product streams or initiatives.
• Identify areas for improvement and drive process improvements.
• Work with external auditors to ensure timely completion of reviews and audits.
• Educate coworkers regarding financial practices, implications, and policies.
• Provide ad hoc analysis support to business leaders and key partners for complex accounting questions.
• Serve as a mentor and resource to junior team members.

A Better Opportunity

Our Accounting team is hiring for a proactive and motivated Accounting Manager. The focus will be on accounting for the different products of the business and working seamlessly across various departments to close the books timely and accurately as dictated under U.S. GAAP accounting roles. This role offers the unique opportunity to directly impact Better’s P&L by applying finance and accounting-related findings to our financials.

• Proven expertise with Excel (combining large data sets, sumifs, index/match, vlookups, etc); familiarity with SQL a plus
• Experience working with Netsuite a plus
• Experience working at a public company a plus
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, without losing attention to detail
• Proactively looking to improve on processes; never satisfied with the status quo
• Stakeholder management skills
• Experience with industries such as financial technology, mortgage banking, or lending a plus
