Job summary

TE Connectivity in Ireland (Galway) is seeking a Visual Inspection Automation Engineer to design and implement automated visual inspection solutions for medical products, using machine vision and AI-based techniques to detect defects, integrating with production lines, and ensuring compliance with medical device standards.

You will collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing and NPD teams, select cameras and lighting, develop algorithms, support NPI, and travel up to 20% as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in automated visual inspection or machine vision in regulated environments.
  • Experience with machine vision platforms is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automated visual inspection systems for defect detection and dimensional inspection.
  • Select and integrate cameras, lenses, lighting, and vision controllers.
  • Develop, test, and optimize vision algorithms using rule-based and AI-based approaches.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, POCs, and pilot implementations.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Process Engineering, and NPD teams.
  • Support new product introductions by defining inspection strategies and requirements.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and system integrators.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve vision system issues related to hardware, software, and process variation.
  • Support commissioning, validation, and handover of inspection systems to production.
  • Maintain a focus on health and safety in new process development.
  • Design, develop, and qualify equipment to meet TE quality and production standards.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, regulatory standards, and customer requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.

The Visual Inspection Automation Engineer will design and implement automated visual inspection solutions for medical products across manufacturing and inspection processes. This role focuses on detecting cosmetic, dimensional, and functional defects using advanced machine vision and AI-based inspection technologies to ensure consistent product quality. The engineer will work closely with quality, manufacturing, and NPD teams to integrate inspection systems into production lines, support validation activities, and ensure compliance with medical device quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Your main tasks
  • Design and develop automated visual inspection systems for defect detection, dimensional inspection, and cosmetic evaluation.
  • Select and integrate cameras, lenses, lighting, and vision controllers based on inspection requirements.
  • Develop, test, and optimize vision algorithms using rule-based and/or AI-based approaches.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, proof-of-concepts (POCs), and pilot implementations.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Process Engineering, and NPD teams
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) by defining inspection strategies and requirements
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and system integrators
  • Troubleshoot and resolve vision system issues related to hardware, software, and process variation
  • Support commissioning, validation, and handover of inspection systems to production
  • Maintain a strong focus on health and safety issues related to new process development.
  • Design, develop, and qualify equipments to meet TE quality and production standards.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field)
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience, in automated visual inspection or machine vision roles (level dependent)
  • Designing & implementing novel solutions for complex automated systems(visual) in Med device or similar industries.
  • Experience in regulated or high-volume manufacturing environments is a plus.
  • Experience with machine vision platforms (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, Omron, OpenCV) a distinct advantage.
  • Strong understanding of cameras, optics, and industrial lighting techniques a distinct advantage.
  • Experience integrating vision systems with PLCs and industrial networks.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality inspection principles.
  • Sound technical knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Creative and structured approach to problem-solving.Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong team player who consistently demonstrates TE values.
