Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Gorey Veterinary Hospital, Co. Wexford

Full-Time, Part-Time & Flexible Working Arrangements Considered

Salary up to €75,000 DOE

A Role for an Experienced Small Animal Clinician Looking to Progress

As a small animal vet, you'll know the value of finding a practice where high-quality medicine is encouraged, professional development is supported, and clinical standards continue to evolve.

At Gorey Veterinary Hospital, we're looking for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a clinician who enjoys first-opinion practice, values strong client relationships, and wants to continue developing their skills within a progressive and supportive environment.

The practice is currently undergoing an exciting period of investment and growth, with ongoing improvements to both our facilities and team. We're looking for someone who wants to be part of that journey and help shape the future direction of our small animal service.

A Diverse and Rewarding Small Animal Caseload

You’ll enjoy a varied caseload that offers the opportunity to build on your medical, surgical and consulting skills while delivering a high standard of care to a loyal and appreciative client base.

This is an excellent role for a veterinarian who enjoys managing cases, developing diagnostic plans, building long-term client relationships and seeing cases through from start to finish.

We encourage clinical curiosity and support vets who are committed to continually advancing their knowledge and providing the best possible outcomes for their patients.

A Practice Investing in the Future

We’ve recently made significant investments in our facilities, equipment and team as part of our continued commitment to delivering outstanding veterinary care.

As the practice continues to grow, we’re creating an environment where experienced clinicians can thrive, share ideas, develop special interests and contribute to ongoing service improvements. This is an exciting time to join a team that is actively building towards the future.

Independence, Confidence and Support

This position is suited to an experienced veterinary surgeon who is confident managing routine first-opinion small animal work independently.

It is not suitable for new graduates or those requiring a high degree of daily mentorship. Instead, we’re looking for someone comfortable with consultations, routine surgery, diagnostics and case management who can contribute confidently to a busy first-opinion caseload.

While the majority of your work will focus on companion animals, there will be some involvement in the mixed on-call rota. Previous farm animal experience is not essential, as support and training can be provided where required.

You’ll be joining an experienced team that values collaboration, open communication and mutual support, ensuring you’ll always have colleagues available for case discussion and guidance when needed.

Flexibility That Works Around You

We recognise that every veterinarian’s ideal working pattern looks different, and we’re keen to build a role around the right person rather than asking candidates to fit into a rigid schedule.

As a guide, our full-time vets typically work an average of 40 hours per week across a combination of weekday shifts between 8:30am and 5:30pm and 10:30am and 7:30pm.

We are happy to discuss full-time, part-time and flexible working arrangements, and welcome conversations around alternative schedules that support both your professional ambitions and personal commitments.

To ensure a fair and sustainable rota for the entire team, participation in our 1 in 6 Saturday rota and 1 in 6 weekend on-call rota is a requirement of the role, including for those working part-time or flexible contracts. Saturday clinics run from 9:00am to 2:30pm, with a half day of TOIL provided, while a full day of TOIL follows an on-call weekend.

Importantly, the practice is not open to the public on Sundays or Bank Holidays, and our out-of-hours service is shared with a neighbouring veterinary practice, helping to distribute workload and support a healthy work-life balance for the team.

Why Gorey?

Gorey combines the best of professional opportunity and lifestyle balance.

Located in one of Ireland’s most attractive regions, the town offers excellent amenities, beautiful beaches, a welcoming community and easy access to Dublin, making it an increasingly popular destination for veterinary professionals seeking both career progression and quality of life.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a VCI-registered Veterinary Surgeon with previous experience in small animal practice.

You’ll be confident managing routine first-opinion caseloads, enjoy delivering high-quality medicine and surgery, and have a genuine desire to continue learning and developing as a clinician. Strong communication skills, professionalism and a collaborative approach are all important qualities for success in this role.
