Job summary

Ayvens Insurance is seeking an Actuarial Trainee to join the Actuarial team in Leopardstown, Dublin 18. The role offers a permanent position with hybrid work (office attendance – 3 days/week) and a path to qualification with study sponsorship.

You will work on reserving, Solvency II reporting and IFRS 17 projects, alongside daily actuarial activities. The successful candidate will report to a qualified actuary and develop through hands‑on experience and formal studies within a supportive team

Qualifications

• 2–4/5 years experience in an insurance actuarial environment (non‑life preferred).
• Familiarity with Solvency II requirements.
• Knowledge of IFRS 17.
• Reserv­ing software experience (e.g. ResQ).
• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
• Ability to communicate with international teams.

Responsibilities

• Apply best estimate actuarial reserving techniques for quarterly reserve estimates.
• Conduct Solvency II TP calculations and reports.
• Assist IFRS 17 reporting team.
• Support internal projects and analytics, including trend investigations.
• Assist with year‑end actuarial certification and QRTs to CBI.
• Support upgrades to actuarial software and systems.
• Prepare materials for quarterly Board/risk meetings.

Job Purpose

Ayvens Insurance is currently recruiting for an experienced Actuarial Trainee to join the Actuarial team on a permanent basis. This role will be focussed on a broad range of specialities including reserving, Solvency II reporting and IFRS 17 reporting. In addition, the person will also be involved in the daily operational activities of the Actuarial team.

This role will report to a qualified actuary.

It is expected that the successful candidate will work towards qualification as an actuary (where Ayvens Insurance will provide study sponsorship and support).

Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To

• Applying best estimate actuarial reserving techniques to prepare quarterly reserve estimates together with accompanying narrative explanations
• Solvency II analysis with particular focus on preparing Technical Provisions (TPs) calculations
• Providing assistance to the IFRS 17 reporting team
• Provide actuarial assistance on internal projects and initiatives including assisting the Analytics area on (inter alia) more granular investigations on claim trends and interacting with the relevant stakeholders on mitigating actions and next steps as required.
• Assist with year-end actuarial certification, audit engagement and Solvency II quarterly & annual Quantitative Reporting Templates (QRTs) to the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI)
• Assisting with upgrades and improvements to software and systems used within the Actuarial area including reserving software
• Assist in the preparation of material and papers for the quarterly Board and group risk management meetings
• Completing mandatory training, including, but not limited to, IT security and compliance training

Knowledge / Skills

Requirements

• Ideally 2 to 4/5 year’s experience in an insurance actuarial environment preferably with non-life experience
• Ideally some knowledge of Solvency II requirements
• Familiarity with IFRS 17
• Reserving knowledge /experience with ideally previous exposure to one or more of the specialist reserving software packages (e.g. ResQ)
• Previous fleet motor and /or personal lines motor experience would be an advantage
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and statistics to deliver outcomes
• Ability to work on own initiative and willingness to take ownership of tasks
• Ability to prioritise work to deliver results within strict deadlines
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Team player who can demonstrate good interpersonal skills and ability to work across departmental and organisational lines
• Ability to communicate with international teams at all levels and communicate well with non- actuarial stakeholders
