Qualifications

  • Typically, 10+ years relevant post-qualification experience.

  • Support the Technical Authority Manager in various projects.
  • Produce and update specifications for the onshore and offshore transmission system.

Technical Authority Specialist – Engineering & Asset Management (E2025221)

The Opportunity

The Engineering and Asset Management (E&AM) Team now have an exciting opportunity for a customer-focused technical and resilient individual to support the Technical Authority Manager. The Infrastructure Agreement governs the industry arrangements between ESB and EirGrid and specifically defines the role of the Technical Authority. The Technical Authority team within EirGrid is responsible for the following areas:

  • Production and updating of EirGrid specifications for the onshore transmission system
  • Production and updating of EirGrid specifications for the offshore transmission system
  • Oversight over the technical feasibility of development projects
  • Responsible for the management of the derogation process for the construction of contestable onshore assets
  • Involved in the introduction of new and/or innovative equipment to the transmission system

The successful candidate in the role of technical authority specialist will provide specialist engineering capability in support of the continued operation and development of the Transmission System. The successful candidate must be recognised as the renowned expert in their field externally and internally and able to influence at senior levels internally in EirGrid, ESB Networks and with Commission for Regulation of Utilities, Government Departments, State Agencies and at senior management levels in customers who are developing multi million euro projects.

This role can be based out of our Dublin or Cork offices.

The Team

The Engineering & Asset Management is responsible for undertaking four key roles: asset management, technical authority, onshore engineering and offshore engineering. The team is responsible for setting the technical engineering policies and standards to be used for transmission infrastructure, monitoring compliance during design and construction and for ensuring asset integrity and ensuring uninterrupted power system functionality. The Engineering and Asset Management is one of the areas within EirGrid which facilitates that role through the development of technical standards and functional specifications for all plant to be connected to the transmission system and the development of new and innovative technologies and methodologies. In addition, these areas are responsible for ensuring that EirGrid’s requirements are incorporated in project design and construction whether the works are carried out by ESB Networks or by third parties.

About you

Successful candidates will have:

  • Chartered Electrical Engineering qualification to honours degree level or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership of applicable industry body for example Engineers Ireland, IET, CIGRE or equivalent
  • Typically, 10 + years relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Excellent technical knowledge in high voltage transmission design with strong knowledge of transmission technology for example with HV cables, substations, or OHL) including new and emerging technologies.
  • Some experience in either the specification, feasibility, design, construction or commissioning of HV transmission equipment from 110 kV to 400 kV
  • Experience of site inspections, witnessing testing and commissioning of transmission equipment.
  • Ability to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal and to work collaboratively with and through others.
  • Strong understanding of the requirements of stakeholders and industry for the transmission system and associated developments.
  • Full driver’s licence.
