Job summary

Amazon Development Centre Ireland Limited is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to design and build an AWS-based telephony platform for internal Amazon teams across EMEA. You will apply strong coding skills, depth in Linux, and networking to deliver scalable telecommunications services.

You will mentor junior engineers, influence architecture choices, and implement DevOps patterns and CI/CD practices to provide self-service tools and automated health checks.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
• Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
• Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby

Responsibilities

• Build a next generation telephony platform for Internal Amazon, enable self-healing for our systems, and provide self-service tools that enable Amazonians to manage their own personal telecom resources.
• Use AWS products, DevOps patterns, and mature CICD processes to build a cloud-scale Telephony system.
• Be involved in architecture decisions and guide junior engineers to raise the bar for future innovations.

The Enterprise Engineering Unified Communications team provides globally scaled, high-quality
voice and video communications solutions that support Amazonians around the world. Our
services touch every element of the business every day: corporate offices, customer service
teams, fulfillment centers, a diverse development community, and many more. We are looking
for a motivated Systems Development Engineer who is ready to take telecommunications to the
next level. For this position, we require a strong coding skill set, detailed knowledge of software
development best practices, depth in Linux operating systems and networking. You’ll play a key
role in architecting, designing, supporting, and enhancing our AWS-based telecommunications
infrastructure. You’ll use and touch a wide range of technologies and systems, including
products that we’ve built from the ground up and commercial products. You’ll help junior
engineers develop their skills, and continue to raise the bar building for the future of Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
