Medtronic Ireland seeks a Sr. Software DevOps Engineer to lead the design, automation and support of its observability stack across Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus and AWS.

This role sets strategic direction, mentors engineers, and drives reliability with actionable insights across systems and applications. You will collaborate cross-functionally to define SLIs/SLOs, enhance CI/CD integration, and guide incident reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field.
• 4+ years in SRE/observability or 2 years with an advanced degree.
• Experience with Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus, and AWS services.

Responsabilités

• Lead the observability stack architecture and platform delivery across Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus, and AWS.
• Mentor and guide a growing team of engineers to improve monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and architecture teams to define SLIs/SLOs and ensure robust observability standards.
• Integrate observability tools into CI/CD pipelines and participate in on-call rotations and post-incident reviews.

We are seeking a Sr. Software DevOps Engineer to lead the design, automation, and support of our observability stack across Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus, and AWS. This role is a technical leadership position responsible for setting the strategic direction of observability, mentoring a growing team of engineers, and driving reliability through actionable insights into our systems and applications.

Day in the Life:

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Sr. Software DevOps Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, containers (Docker), Kubernetes, and microservices observability patterns.
• Proven track record implementing Terraform and GitOps practices to enable scalable, reliable, and automated infrastructure delivery.
• Own the architecture, implementation, and lifecycle management of the observability platform (Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus, & more).
• Lead efforts to improve logging, monitoring, metrics collection, distributed tracing, and alerting across cloud-native applications.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and Architecture teams to define SLIs/SLOs and implement robust observability standards.
• Evangelize for all observability-related initiatives and mentor junior engineers in best practices.
• Integrate observability tools into CI/CD pipelines to enable proactive detection and incident response.
• Participate in on-call rotations and post-incident reviews, driving reliability improvements across the platform.

Qualifications –

Must Have - Minimum Requirements

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, PLEASE BE SURE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience SRE, observability, platform engineering, or related fields, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of technical experience.

Must Have Skills:

• Deep expertise in managing Elastic Cloud (Kibana, Beats, Logstash, Index Lifecycle Policies).
• Hands‑on experience with Dynatrace and Prometheus monitoring stacks, including exporter management and custom dashboards.
• Strong experience with AWS services (EC2, EKS, S3, IAM, etc.) and Streaming framework (Kafka etc.)
• Optimize cost, performance, and scalability of observability services within AWS.
• Proven leadership and mentorship experience; ability to lead cross‑functional projects and develop junior team members.
• Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar) for automation and integration.
• Define and enforce data retention, access control, and multi‑tenant observability strategies for Elastic and Prometheus.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with OpenTelemetry or other open standards for observability.
• Familiarity with cost optimization strategies in observability tooling.
• Exposure to compliance frameworks (HIPAA, ISO 27001) in observability contexts.

Pay range / Rango salarial / Intervalo salarial /Fascia retributiva / Tranche de salaire / Gehaltsband / Salaribereik: Ireland: 65,600.00 EUR- 98,400.00 EUR|The final salary within this range will be determined based on objective, job‑related criteria, including relevant experience, skills and qualifications, in accordance with our compensation framework.

This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
