Job summary

Stewarts Care Ltd in Dublin is seeking a Senior Speech and Language Therapist to provide a range of services for children 0–18 and their families within the CDNT5 framework.

Job description

Location: Children Disability Network Team 5: Rossecourt, Lucan, Dublin 20

Purpose and Scope

To provide a range of speech and language therapy services to children 0 – 18 years and their families who attend Children Network Disability Team (CDNT5), within an interdisciplinary framework and family centred practice and to support other staff and students as assigned.

Incorporates the provision of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (FEDS) management.

Have the responsibilities of a Mandated Person as outlined in the Childcare Act 2015.

The scope of the post will be working with children and young people (0-18) with complex needs and their families.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide quality evidence-based Speech & Language Therapy service including assessment of family needs, and a range of advisory, practical and skilled emotional supports the service is provided within the Progressing Disabilities Services for Children and young people (PDS) framework, with interdisciplinary team working and family centred practice at its core.

The brief of the post will be working with children in CDNT 5 in Stewart’s Care Services which is the lead agency for two CDNT’s (CDNT-5 and 6) in line with ethos of Progressing Children’s Disability Services (PDS).

Qualifications & Experience

Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification clinical experience.

Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Speech and Language Therapist by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

Previous speech and language therapy experience working with children or within the disability sector.

Experience of inter/transdisciplinary team working.

Experience working with children with disorders of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (FEDS) needs.

Any relevant post graduate training specific to child disability services.

Specific training and experience in assessment of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Experience in assessment of children who have a physical and/or sensory disability and/or intellectual disability.

Experience of supporting children/young persons with life limiting conditions.

Previous experience in a senior post.

Experience of completing assessments under the AON process.

Organisation and Professional Knowledge

Understanding of, and commitment to the Social Model of Disability

Understanding of the role of other disciplines in the interdisciplinary team

Understanding of Best Practice in Record Keeping

Understanding of legislation relevant to the post e.g., Disability Act, Data Protection Act.

Knowledge and understanding of the theory and frameworks of assessment and intervention in Speech & Language Therapy

Understanding and knowledge of Progressing Disability Services.

Understanding and knowledge of clinical support and supervision.

Evidence and commitment to continuous professional development.

Demonstrate experience in the provision of mentoring, coaching and supervision is desirable.

Experience of MDT or Interdisciplinary working is an advantage.

Experience of Assessment of Need is an advantage.

Experience of caseload prioritisation Systems is an advantage.

Experience in auditing is a plus.

Remuneration

Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health consolidated pay scales.

Current Salary Scale: Speech and Language Therapist, Senior

Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with DOH salary scales.

Annual leave

203 hours per annum.

Working week

The hours allocated to this post are 35 hours per week with a 7-hour standard working day, exclusive of lunch breaks.

The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of CDNM and in accordance with the needs of the service.

All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role.

Garda Vetting

Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the service users and employees.
