Job summary

eBay is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Cloud Security Segmentation Platform team in Ireland. You will design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services, focusing on Kubernetes-based control plane components and cloud-native security capabilities.

You will work with AI-powered development tools to enhance testing, debugging, and documentation while collaborating with senior engineers, product managers, and SREs to deliver resilient security platforms for a global commerce

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field; 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, or C++.
• Experience developing backend services or distributed applications.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native application development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Build features for Kubernetes-based control plane services and cloud-native security platforms.
• Develop reliable, well-tested software using modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and observability.

• Troubleshoot production issues across distributed systems, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and incident response to continuously improve system reliability.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development efficiency, testing, debugging, documentation, and code quality.
• Continuously learn new technologies and contribute to improving engineering processes through automation and innovation.

Software Engineer – Cloud Security Segmentation Platform

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, or C++.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and networking fundamentals.
• Experience developing backend services or distributed applications.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native application development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated testing.
• Basic understanding of Linux, TCP/IP networking, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience using AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and software quality.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:

• Kubernetes and container networking
• Service Mesh (Istio or Envoy)
• Linux networking (iptables, nftables, network namespaces)
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Databases and messaging systems
• Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
• Security technologies such as Zero Trust, workload identity, or micro-segmentation
