Job Summary

The Software Architect for the Acuity Product Data Management (PDM) system is responsible for defining and maintaining the technical architecture, engineering standards, and technology roadmap for one of Acuity's most critical enterprise platforms. PDM manages product series, option groups, attributes, assets, pricing, validation, and ordering information consumed by commerce, quoting, ordering, manufacturing, and downstream enterprise systems.

This role combines deep technical leadership with hands‑on architecture and coding, solution design, modernization planning, and engineering governance. The architect partners with Product Management, Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, DevOps, Security, Data, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned to business objectives.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Enterprise System Design: Architect end-to-end distributed systems with a focus on scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, and loose coupling across complex enterprise platforms.

  • Cloud Architecture: Design and optimize multi-tier cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), apply cloud-native patterns, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and cost-effective resource management.

  • API & Integration Strategy: Define standards for API design, lifecycle management, and service integration (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), ensuring robust contracts, backward compatibility, and developer ergonomics.

  • Multi‑Language Fluency: Leverage deep hands‑on expertise in core enterprise programming ecosystems, principally Python, C# (.NET), and Java, to guide language-appropriate architectural decisions and evaluate technical trade‑offs.

  • Software Craftsmanship & Design Patterns: Champion clean architecture, domain‑driven design (DDD), and classic design patterns to ensure codebases remain maintainable, testable, and modular over time.

  • Data Architecture & Modeling: Lead database topology decisions across relational engines (SQL) and NoSQL stores (document, key‑value, graph, and wide‑column), balancing data consistency models, read/write performance, and long‑term storage strategies.

  • Event‑Driven Architectures: Architect asynchronous, event‑driven platforms utilizing messaging systems and streaming fabrics (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, event brokers) to support decoupled, reactive workflows.

  • DevOps & Continuous Delivery: Collaborate closely with platform engineering to embed modern CI/CD automation, observability (metrics, logs, traces), automated testing, and secure deployment pipelines across all architectural boundaries.

  • Internal Developer Platforms (IDP): Drive the architecture and adoption of self‑service internal developer platforms that standardize deployment patterns, accelerate developer velocity, and enforce architectural guardrails.

  • AI Fluency & Emerging Technologies: Pragmatically evaluate and incorporate artificial intelligence, machine learning pipelines, and LLM integrations into core system architectures to modernize capabilities and improve operational efficiency.

  • Cross-Functional Influence & Alignment: Translate complex business objectives into pragmatic technical roadmaps, aligning engineering teams, product managers, and executive leadership behind unified architectural decisions.

  • Engineering Mentorship & Talent Growth: Coach and mentor staff engineers, technical leads, and development teams, fostering a strong culture of continuous learning, system-level thinking, and modern software craftsmanship.
