Job summary

Focus Ireland is seeking a Social Care Worker to provide therapeutic, residential support for young people in Dublin. You will act as a Key Worker, develop individual care plans, and coordinate with external agencies to promote safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes.

Applicants should hold a third level social care degree (or CORU registration), have a clean driving license, and demonstrated experience with marginalized youth.

Qualifications

• A third level qualification in social care (e.g., youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology) and/or CORU registration.
• Full clean driving license.
• Direct work experience in a social care setting with marginalized clients, preferably adolescents.
• Working knowledge of child protection and national standards for children's residentials.

Responsibilities

• Work in line with Focus Ireland's mission and contribute to the residential care team.
• Support young people in a residential setting to promote safety, wellbeing and development.
• Act as a Key Worker, coordinating supports with external agencies.
• Develop and review individual care and placement plans with documentation.
• Provide trauma-informed support for challenging behaviours and complex needs.
• Advocate for young people regarding social work, aftercare, education, health and other services.
• Engage families, social workers and stakeholders to support needs and goals.
• Maintain records, reports and documentation in line with statutory requirements.
• Attend team meetings and contribute to service improvement, including 24/7 roster coverage.

The aim is to provide a therapeutic care placement to the young people who most often present with emotional or behavioural difficulties and cannot live with their own families.

What You Will Do

• Work in line with Focus Ireland's mission, values, policies, and procedures, contributing positively as part of the residential care team.
• Support young people in a residential setting, promoting their safety, wellbeing, development, and positive outcomes.
• Act as a Key Worker for designated young people, building effective relationships and coordinating supports with relevant external agencies.
• Develop, implement, and review individual care plans and placement plans, ensuring accurate documentation and progress monitoring.
• Provide trauma-informed support to young people, including those presenting with challenging behaviours and complex needs.
• Advocate on behalf of young people in relation to social work, aftercare, education, training, health, legal, and other support services.
• Promote the physical, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing, rights, and responsibilities of each young person.
• Maintain positive engagement with families, social workers, and external stakeholders to support the needs and goals of young people.
• Ensure all records, reports, and documentation are maintained in accordance with statutory, regulatory, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements.
• Encourage and facilitate the participation of young people in decisions affecting their lives, both individually and within the wider service.
• Attend and contribute to team meetings, reviews, training, and professional development activities, supporting continuous service improvement.
• Comply with health and safety standards, undertake additional duties as required, and participate in a 24/7 seven-day roster system.

What You Will Need

• A Third Level qualification at degree level in the area of social care i.e. youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology etc and/or be a CORU registered Social Care Worker
• Full clean driving license.
• Proven direct work experience in a social care setting at a social care level or equivalent.
• Experience of supporting marginalized clients/groups preferably adolescents.
• A working knowledge and insight into the social issues (e.g. substance abuse) that affect young people, in particular young people, who have or are experiencing trauma and attachment issues.
• Ability to manage and support young people in crisis who present with challenging behaviors based on the values and principles of best practice in Focus Ireland.
• Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection.
• Working knowledge of the national standards for childrens' residentials.
