Qualifications

  • Be eligible for registration in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by CORU (evidence of application will be necessary)
  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability for proper discharge of the duties of the office

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of Care and Placement Plans and ensure recording of same
  • Promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/young person
  • Promote welfare of each young person in care
  • Encourage attendance at school, training centres, medical and clinical appointments
  • Organise personal documents, arrangements, information, and finances for the young person
  • Liaise with parent, family, general services, and other agencies
  • Attend meetings related to care and developments of the young person
  • Engage in age-appropriate play and activities with each child/young person
  • Engage in physical intervention where in keeping with local policies
  • Promote participation of children and young people in decisions
  • Prepare healthy meals with the young people
  • Undertake home management including budget, upkeep and cleaning
  • Attend team meetings and report to Social Care Leader/Manager
  • Make written and verbal reports on progress
  • Ensure HIQA compliance and current legislation knowledge
  • Undertake ongoing professional training and development
  • Comply with policies, procedures, guidelines and safe practice

Job description

Social Care Worker job in County Mullingar.

This is an exciting opportunity for Social Care Workers to join a new Tusla service in Mullingar which will deliver a trauma-informed model of care for young people aged between 13 & 17 years of age.The team will encourage the development of positive attachments through relationship building with the overall goal of providing a therapeutic environment for children and young people. There will be a strong emphasis on engaging the young people in the programme and on building rapport in support of developing relationships.

You will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of Social Care professionals to deliver robust, holistic, trauma-informed care to the young people.

The Social Care Worker will have responsibility for working with Children and Young People, household activities, administration, teamwork, professional development, health and safety.

Job Overview:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of Care and Placement Plans and to ensure appropriate recording of same.
  • Promote the rights and responsibilities of each child/young person within the Service.
  • Promote physical, emotional, social and religious welfare of each young person in care.
  • Encourage attendance at school, training centres, medical and clinical appointments.

  • Liaise with the parent, family, general services, and other agencies on behalf of the young person.
  • Attend meetings in relation to the care and developments of the young person.

  • Promote the participation of children and young people in decision making on issues that affect their lives at both individual and collective levels.
  • Prepare and provide, in conjunction with the young people, well balanced meals of high quality.
  • To undertake various aspects of home management including the household budget, upkeep and cleaning
  • Attend team meetings and to report to the Social Care Leader / Manager on matters affecting the delivery of service.
  • Make written and verbal reports to the Social Care Leader / Manager on a regular basis on the progress of development of the young person.
  • Ensure Child protection procedures are followed in accordance with the responsibilities of a designated officer.
  • To keep abreast of current legislation and current professional childcare knowledge.
  • Undertake ongoing professional training and development.
  • Comply with and contribute to the development of policies, procedures, guidelines and safe professional practice and adhere to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA)

Job Requirements:

  • Be registered in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board maintained by CORU.
