Job summary

Site Electrical Engineer Lead - Job Specification Key Responsibilities Electrical Engineering & Project Delivery The Site Electrical Engineer Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and sustainable operation of all electrical infrastructure at the manufacturing site. This position bridges design assurance, compliance, and long-term reliability, with a focus on governance, technical expertise, stakeholder collaboration, and innovation. The role supports capital projects, local projects, facility upgrades, and commissioning activities, while promoting a culture of safety and continuous learning. The role will work closely with electrical technicians to support professional development, best practices, and continuous improvement of the site's electrical infrastructure and safety standards. Engineering Standards & Design Assurance Lead the implementation of company electrical engineering standards into all capital and local projects. Develop, support, and provide electrical design, construction, and verification deliverables in accordance with project scope, schedule, and applicable standards. Provide technical and commercial documentation, technical input, and specialist electrical engineering expertise. Establish standards for electrical systems and technical documentation relating to electrical systems, aligned with applicable industry best practice, national codes, and company engineering requirements. Compliance, Governance & Documentation Set and ensure adherence to handover and lifecycle management expectations. Ensure documentation packs are available, current, accurate, and maintained to an appropriate standard for all electrical infrastructure on site. Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable engineering, quality, manufacturing, and regulatory requirements, including relevant IEC, IEEE, ETCI, and site-specific design standards and practices. Risk Management & Electrical Safety Support design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments. Develop and maintain site-specific electrical risk mitigation plans. Address electrical safety risks including Arc Flash protection, ATEX compliance, and emergency electrical scenarios. Promote high standards of electrical safety across the site and support continuous improvement of electrical safety practices. Maintenance & Lifecycle Management Support ongoing electrical system maintenance and lifecycle management. Diagnose and resolve electrical system failures in collaboration with the maintenance team. Support the management and resolution of deviations and unexpected electrical events, minimising disruption to site operations. Provide technical support for electrical infrastructure throughout its operational lifecycle. Sustainability, Innovation & Continuous Improvement Monitor electrical usage data and trends to support sustainability and energy optimisation initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve electrical system performance, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. Promote the use of industry best practice, digital technologies, and emerging tools, including AI-enabled systems where appropriate. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement across the site's electrical infrastructure. Training & Professional Development Support the development of electrical engineering and electrical safety capabilities within the engineering team. Develop and deliver training programmes for maintenance craft and other relevant personnel. Work with electrical technicians to promote professional development, knowledge sharing, best practices, and consistent technical standards. Stakeholder & Supplier Management Maintain a high level of communication and cooperation with internal and external stakeholders. Support the management and coordination of suppliers and contractors. Provide technical input and support to project teams, procurement, finance, operations, engineering, and site management. Ensure effective communication of electrical engineering requirements throughout project and operational activities. Knowledge Sharing & External Engagement Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration between colleagues. Participate in relevant external forums and professional networks. Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, industry standards, regulatory developments, best practice, and benchmark data. Apply relevant external learning to improve site electrical engineering standards and practices. Main Job Tasks Lead the implementation of applicable electrical engineering standards across capital and local projects. Develop, review, and approve electrical design, construction, commissioning, and verification deliverables as appropriate. Ensure electrical systems and associated technical documentation meet applicable regulatory, engineering, quality, and industry requirements. Establish and maintain appropriate electrical engineering standards and site practices. Ensure effective handover of electrical systems and accurate lifecycle documentation. Conduct and support technical design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments. Develop and maintain electrical risk mitigation strategies, including Arc Flash, ATEX, and emergency electrical scenarios. Provide technical support for electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, system failures, and deviations. Support the reliability and lifecycle management of electrical infrastructure. Analyse electrical consumption data to identify opportunities for optimisation and sustainability improvements. Develop and deliver electrical engineering and safety training. Support the professional development of electrical technicians and engineering personnel. Facilitate technical knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Maintain awareness of industry developments and participate in relevant professional forums. Support supplier and contractor management activities. Maintain effective communication and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. Some travel may be required as part of project activities, supplier/contractor engagement, training, or other business requirements. Knowledge, Skills & Experience Education Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8) or a related discipline. Experience Minimum 5 years' experience in an electrical engineering role within an industrial, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, or similarly regulated environment. Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities on live manufacturing or industrial sites. Familiarity with GMP requirements and experience working within regulated manufacturing facilities is desirable. Experience with electrical engineering standards, compliance, risk management, maintenance, and lifecycle management. Experience working with contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams. Technical Knowledge Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and standards. Understanding of relevant IEC, IEEE, ETCI, and applicable national standards. Knowledge of electrical safety requirements, including Arc Flash and ATEX. Understanding of GMP, regulatory, quality, and engineering requirements applicable to regulated manufacturing environments. Experience with electrical design assurance, commissioning, verification, and technical documentation. Understanding of electrical systems lifecycle management and reliability principles.
