Job Title: Site and Facility Caretaker
Department: Manufacturing Operations
Reports to: Manufacturing Manager
Job Purpose
The Site and facility caretaker is responsible for maintaining the internal and external areas of the manufacturing site to ensure a safe, clean, and well‑organized working environment. This includes building upkeep, waste management, and the prompt resolution of sanitary and facilities‑related issues to support efficient manufacturing operations.
Role & Responsibilities
Facility Site Maintenance
- Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the internal and external areas of the facility (non‑production areas)
- Carry out routine inspections of the building, grounds, and site infrastructure
- Identify, report, and where appropriate, resolve minor maintenance issues
- Support contractors during on‑site maintenance or repair works
- Ensure walkways, entrances, car parks, and external areas are safe and well maintained
Waste Management
- Manage waste streams in line with site procedures and environmental requirements
- Empty and maintain waste bins, skips, and compactors
- Ensure correct segregation, storage, and disposal of general, recyclable, and hazardous waste
- Maintain cleanliness of waste areas and report any issues or non‑compliance
Sanitary & Hygiene Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain sanitary facilities including toilets, washrooms, and welfare areas
- Respond promptly to sanitary issues such as leaks, blockages, or hygiene concerns
- Support site hygiene standards in line with company and regulatory requirements
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work in compliance with all Health & Safety policies and safe systems of work
- Use tools, equipment, and chemicals safely and as instructed
- Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Report hazards, near misses, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly
- Support audits, inspections, and compliance activities as required
General Duties
- Maintain accurate records and checklists related to facilities tasks
- Support production and operations teams as required
- Carry out ad‑hoc site duties to support smooth facility operations
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, or manufacturing environment
- Practical, hands‑on approach to building and site maintenance
- Basic understanding of health & safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Good attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
- Physically capable of manual tasks, including lifting and working outdoors
- Forklift license
- Computer literacy
Desirable
- Experience in manufacturing, food, pharmaceutical, or regulated environment
- Knowledge of waste management procedures and environmental compliance
- Basic maintenance or trade skills (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, general repairs)
- Experience working with contractors
