Job summary

Sandvik Portlaoise is seeking a skilled Service Technician to maintain and service underground and surface mining equipment across Ireland. You will diagnose, service, and repair to keep machines at peak performance, while collaborating with the service team and customers.

Applicants should have 3–5 years in heavy machinery, strong hydraulics, electricals, and diagnostic tools. A full driving licence is preferred; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years hands-on experience with heavy construction or agricultural machinery.
• Proven expertise in hydraulic system maintenance and fault finding (pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses).
• Strong electrical systems knowledge including wiring, sensors, control units, and CAN bus diagnostics.
• Experience using diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot faults.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and service documentation.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.
• Strong problem-solving and proactive approach to issue resolution.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and service equipment to ensure peak performance.
• Plan tools and parts required to perform tasks according to procedures.
• Commission products including pre-delivery inspections and on-site commissioning.
• Conduction root cause analysis (RCA) as first line of support.
• Document maintenance reports for internal and external stakeholders and obtain customer authorization to invoice.
• Coach junior staff and guide them in their completion of tasks.
• Ensure all routine work procedures are carried out in accordance with safety standards.
• Ad hoc duties as requested by management.
