Job summary

Cisco's Webex Engineering Group in Galway is seeking a senior software engineer to help design and build AI-powered collaboration features. This hybrid role requires you to be in the office three days a week, Tuesday to Thursday, to collaborate with peers.

You will lead architecture for distributed microservices, mentor engineers, and drive end-to-end delivery with a strong focus on testing, reliability, and DevOps practices in a fast-growing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Experience leading high-level system design for distributed multi-service ecosystems.
• Experience designing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration.

Minimum Qualifications

• Academic Qualification: Bachelor's degree or higher in an analytical subject (e.g. Computer Science, Electronic/Software Engineering).
• Core Software Development Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in software development using Java.
• System Architecture & Design Leadership: Documented experience leading the high-level system design and architecture of distributed, multi-service ecosystems, including defining cross-team API standards.
• DevOps & CI/CD Strategy: Proven experience designing, configuring, or optimizing end-to-end CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), or infrastructure-as-code strategies for highly available systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Java & Spring Architecture: Deep technical expertise in advanced Java concepts, Spring Boot ecosystem optimizations, and microservices patterns (e.g., event sourcing, CQRS, WebSockets).
• Advanced Testing & Quality Assurance: Hands-on experience establishing automated testing strategies across teams, including contract testing, performance/load testing, and chaos engineering.
• Engineering Mentorship: Demonstrated experience peer-reviewing complex code architectures, onboarding new team members, and formally or informally mentoring mid-level and junior engineers.
• AI-First Engineering Leadership: Practical experience establishing team-wide best practices for using LLM-based engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) for scaffolding, safe refactoring, and test generation.
• Strategic Trade-offs: Ability to clearly communicate and evaluate complex technical trade-offs, manage technical debt, and align engineering decisions with broader business product goals.
