Senior Site Reliability Engineer I

We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer I to join Etsy’s Search Developer Platform team, working on the core services that power Etsy search for 86million active buyers and 5.5million sellers. This full‑time role reports to the Engineering Manager, Foundation and requires several days per week in the Dublin office for teams located within commutable distance. Salary Range: €95,000.00 – €112,000.00.

Responsibilities

• Own high‑impact platform systems used across search, from Kubernetes‑based runtime environments to CI/CD and deployment platforms.
• Collaborate with platform engineers, ML teams, SREs, and product partners to define standards, evolve platforms, and influence technical direction while building the next generation of our high‑availability search platform in the cloud.
• Build developer‑facing platforms and tooling (self‑service deploys, observability, Bazel workflows, and search‑specific CI/CD) to reduce friction at scale.
• Operate business‑critical systems on a rotation‑based on‑call schedule, continuously improving reliability, operability, and developer experience.
• Identify areas of friction on the search platform and implement features that measurably improve developer experience.
• Support day‑to‑day operations of large‑scale applications, including monitoring, measuring, and troubleshooting infrastructure and services.
• Automate away workload that can become burdensome for teams, reducing toil and technical debt.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with the last 2 years in systems, infrastructure, SRE, or DevOps roles, preferably in a cloud environment.
• Strong software engineering and coding skills with the ability to write high‑performance, production‑quality code.
• Hands‑on experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform and configuration management tools like Chef or Ansible.
• Debugging experience on Linux‑based operating systems.
• Willingness to work with and improve existing code.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Go, Python, Java, or PHP).
• Solid background with cloud technologies such as Google Cloud or AWS.
• Experience with search technologies (Lucene/Solr, Elasticsearch, Vespa) is a plus.
• Experience with Grafana, Kubernetes, or Docker is a plus.
• Experience iterating on multiple projects with collaborative teams, each lasting months or longer.
