Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Security Research Engineer to take on challenging malware analysis and threat research tasks within Elastic Security. You will reverse engineer unknown samples, build protections, and contribute to public research through Elastic Security Labs and GitHub.

You will collaborate across teams to translate discoveries into scalable detection engineering, share insights at conferences, and mentor junior researchers while advancing the team's

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional experience reverse engineering malware and researching adversary tradecraft across multiple formats
• Python development experience for research tooling and automation, plus ability to read C/C++
• YARA authorship and hunting at scale on large telemetry datasets
• Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux internals, network protocols and basic cryptography
• Technical writing ability to produce clear public analyses for defenders
• Experience using AI to accelerate development and optimize code while owning outcomes

Responsibilities

• Reverse engineer malware across Windows, macOS, Linux and recover communication methods and persistence
• Operate global data systems to surface threats and provide campaign context to customers
• Create signatures and automation to scale protections and detections
• Publish research to Elastic Security Labs and public repositories
• Collaborate with neighboring teams on shared threat intelligence and detection projects
• Lead investigations and mentor researchers across teams
