Job summary

Blackrock Clinic, a leading private hospital in Ireland, is seeking a Senior Radiographer Cardiac MRI to lead advanced Cardiac MRI examinations and support a high-quality service within Radiology. The role involves collaboration with radiologists, cardiologists, physicists and nursing staff, and requires significant Cardiac MRI experience.

35 hours per week in a private hospital environment, with on-site work in Dublin.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Radiography or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years MRI experience, with significant experience in Cardiac MRI.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake and lead advanced Cardiac MRI examinations.
  • To support the development and delivery of a high-quality Cardiac MRI service in collaboration with Radiologists, Cardiologists, Physicists and Nursing staff.
  • In the absence of the MRI Clinical Specialist Radiographer, undertake primary responsibility for the day-to-day running of the MRI service, including vetting referrals, protocol optimisation and equipment management.
  • Carry out regular audits and participate in quality improvement initiatives relating to Cardiac MRI service delivery, image quality, patient safety and clinical outcomes.

Role Purpose

Key Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensure the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred Cardiac MRI service, maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.
  • Act as a senior resource within the MRI department, providing expertise in Cardiac MRI imaging and protocol selection.
  • Perform and oversee advanced Cardiac MRI examinations.
  • Work closely with Consultant Radiologists, Cardiologists and multidisciplinary teams to optimise examination protocols and ensure clinical requirements are met.
  • Review referrals and ensure appropriate justification and protocol selection for Cardiac MRI examinations.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and continuous review of Cardiac MRI protocols in line with current best practice and technological advancements.
  • Allocate workload to facilitate efficient patient throughput while maintaining image quality and patient safety.
  • Participate in on-call services and extended working day activities as required.
  • Ensure adherence to MRI safety policies and procedures, including screening, emergency preparedness and safe operation within the MRI environment.
  • Undertake responsibility for daily and weekly MRI quality assurance programmes, with particular focus on maintaining optimal performance for cardiac imaging.
  • Monitor image quality and participate in audit activities to ensure compliance with departmental and accreditation standards.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and collaborate with vendors and service engineers to minimise disruption to service delivery.
  • Support the Radiology Services Manager and MRI Clinical Specialist Radiographer in the development and expansion of the Cardiac MRI service.
  • Participate in departmental audits, research projects, service evaluations and quality improvement initiatives related to cardiac imaging.
  • Maintain expertise in emerging Cardiac MRI techniques and disseminate knowledge to colleagues within the department.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings where appropriate and contribute specialist Cardiac MRI knowledge to patient management discussions.
  • Be familiar with and comply with all departmental policies, MRI safety guidelines, local rules and standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake administrative, scheduling and workflow management duties as required to support the efficient operation of the Cardiac MRI service.
  • Develop and review operational policies, protocols and guidelines relating to Cardiac MRI to maximise resources and ensure ongoing service improvement.

Management of Radiography

  • Initiate the implementation of a staff development and individual performance review and foster a high level of morale by motivation and communication.
  • Participate in the teaching, training and supervision of new staff members.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of new developments and promote awareness of these amongst colleagues.
  • Adhere to Human Resource policies as set out in The Blackrock Clinic Employee Manual.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Self-directed with excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Proven successful people management skills along with an understanding of clinical governance.
