Job summary

Merit Medical Galway is seeking a qualified R&D Process Development Engineer to join the R&D group. You will lead the selection, generation and validation of new process technologies and improve existing methods for robust manufacturing transfer.

You will collaborate with project leaders, operations and suppliers to deliver high‑quality, scalable solutions and mentor junior engineers and technicians in a fast‑paced, compliant environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or related technical field.
• Experience in analytical problem‑solving and process development.
• Experience with validation and statistical analysis.
• Metal processing and joining techniques knowledge is advantageous.
• Knowledge of vascular medical device materials and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient with SolidWorks and/or 3D modeling.
• People/team management skills.
• Formal project management training is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Project Leaders, R&D and Operations to understand product requirements and deliverables.
• Lead by example, coaching Engineers and Technicians to build a high‑performing team.
• Investigate and develop materials, technologies and specs for robust process designs.
• Design and develop production equipment, tooling and fixtures; generate drawings.
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to prototype fixtures and equipment.
• Ensure manufacturability and cost considerations for scale‑up.
• Define drawings, BOMs, routers and procedures for manufacturing.
• Document equipment/fixings with tolerances and maintenance plans.
• Plan and execute risk assessments, process specs and IQ/OQ/PQ.
• Maintain Engineering and Design docs per Quality Management System.
• Guide Junior Engineers and Technicians in development.
• Perform other related duties as required.
