Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its expanding Rail and Metro team in Dublin. You will provide commercial leadership, cost management and contract administration across all project stages, liaising with clients, designers and contractors to deliver high-value transport schemes.

You will mentor junior staff and help drive robust financial control, risk management and value engineering across multiple rail projects in Ireland.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership with SCSI, RICS or equivalent.
  • Proven experience delivering QS and cost management on rail, metro, or major transportation projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC and Public Works contracts; experience administering complex contracts.
  • Experience in cost estimating, planning, procurement, contract administration, change control, and reporting.
  • Ability to manage costs, forecast finances, assess risk, and apply value engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver quantity surveying and cost management for rail/metro projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, plans, budgets, tenders and procurement reports.
  • Lead cost planning and cost control across the project lifecycle.
  • Administer contracts and support procurement strategies per project requirements.
  • Evaluate tenders, variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Monitor costs, cash flow, forecasts and commercial performance against budgets.
  • Identify risks/opportunities and support value engineering initiatives.
  • Build relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and teams.
  • Prepare commercial reports and provide financial forecasting for decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with governance, contracts and industry best practice.
  • Mentor junior quantity surveyors and support team development.

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding Rail and Metro team in Dublin. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key commercial role on some of Ireland's most significant rail infrastructure programmes, helping to deliver projects that improve connectivity, support sustainable transport, and shape the future of mobility.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide commercial leadership and cost management services across all stages of the project lifecycle. You'll collaborate with clients, designers, contractors, and project managers to ensure successful project delivery while driving value, managing risk, and maintaining robust financial control.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver quantity surveying and cost management services across major rail and metro infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, cost plans, budgets, tender documentation, and procurement reports.
  • Lead cost planning and cost control activities throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Administer contracts and support procurement strategies in accordance with project requirements.
  • Evaluate tenders, variations, compensation events, claims, and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, cash flow, forecasts, and commercial performance against approved budgets.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities while supporting value engineering initiatives to optimise project outcomes.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Prepare commercial reports and provide accurate financial forecasting to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with AECOM governance, contractual obligations, and industry best practice.
  • Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors, contributing to the continued growth and development of the team.

Qualifications
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status, or is working towards chartership, with SCSI, RICS, or an equivalent professional body.
  • Proven experience delivering quantity surveying and cost management services on rail, metro, or major transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, including NEC and Public Works Contracts, with experience administering contracts on complex infrastructure schemes.
  • Experience in cost estimating, cost planning, procurement, contract administration, change control, claims management, and commercial reporting.
  • The ability to manage project costs, financial forecasting, risk, and value engineering throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and commercial problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience working collaboratively with clients, contractors, designers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced rail infrastructure environment while maintaining a high standard of commercial delivery.
