Senior Physiotherapist – UPMC Aut Even

Location: Aut Even Hospital
Job type: Fixed Term

Overview

UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Senior Physiotherapist on a 2‑year fixed term to provide high‑quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services to orthopaedic patients, both in‑patient and out‑patient. The role combines clinical expertise with service development and leadership responsibilities for out‑patient services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide expert assessment and treatment for orthopaedic patients.
  • Develop and implement evidence‑based protocols for post‑operative orthopaedic surgeries.Lead and develop the physiotherapy out‑patient service, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff in out‑patient services.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for orthopaedic services within the hospital.
  • Deliver physiotherapy services to orthopaedic, medical and surgical patients as required.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
  • Provide patient education and staff training on musculoskeletal/orthopaedic topics both in the hospital and in the community.
  • Engage in clinical audits and research to advance service quality.
  • Link with colleagues in other hospitals to align services.
  • Maintain CORU registration and adhere to hospital policies and clinical governance standards.
  • Ensure patient partnership, informed consent, confidentiality and safety in all interactions.
  • Apply best available evidence, national and international standards, local guidelines and outcome measures in assessment and treatment.
  • Form treatment plans in partnership with patients, considering comorbidities and patient preferences.
  • Discharge or transfer care in accordance with local procedures and communicate clearly with patients and stakeholders.
  • Conduct handover and continuity of care for absences or out‑of‑hours services.
  • Take responsibility for personal learning and development, using self‑assessment to ensure safe and effective practice.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement, audit and research projects to enhance orthopaedic physiotherapy services.
  • Support accreditation processes and policy development within the department.
  • Adopt a culture of safety, including infection control, manual handling and fire regulations.
  • Eng with the Engagement and Competency Process for professional development.
  • Assist in the development of performance indicators and quality programmes.
Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four years clinical experience, with proven track record across MSK, orthopaedic, neurology and respiratory patient groups.
  • Demonstrated high level knowledge of evidence‑based practice in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Basic PC/IT skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibility and to work flexible patterns.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, time management and written/vocal communication skills.
Desirable
  • Post‑registration MSc.
  • Membership of ISCP.
  • Member of a relevant ISCP special interest group.
Role Competencies
  • Advanced assessment and treatment of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal issues.
  • Leadership in orthopaedic out‑patient service development and staff mentoring.
  • Delivery of physiotherapy care for intra‑ and outpatient orthopaedic cases, including post‑op hip/knee replacements.
  • Development and use of evidence‑based protocols for orthopaedic rehabilitation.
  • Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings for orthopaedic patients.
  • Provision of patient education on orthopaedic and post‑surgical recovery.
  • Deliver community education on orthopaedic and general musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Engagement in clinical audits and research for orthopaedics.
  • Adherence to CORU standards and hospital governance requirements.
