Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior PHP Engineer based in Ireland.

Join a remote-first cybersecurity engineering team dedicated to making the internet safer for businesses and legitimate users. In this role, you will develop and maintain PHP integrations that connect advanced security solutions with hosting control panels, content management systems, and customer platforms. You will work on plugins, extensions, and custom interfaces that help hosting providers deliver effective protection against automated threats and web-based attacks. Collaborating with engineers across multiple disciplines, you will contribute to reliable, scalable, and secure software throughout the development lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges while expanding your knowledge of networking, web security, and complementary programming languages. If you enjoy taking ownership, solving problems collaboratively, and continuously learning in a fully remote environment, this role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain PHP modules, extensions, and plugins for hosting control panels, including cPanel, Plesk, and DirectAdmin.
  • Build and maintain integrations for content management systems such as WordPress, ensuring compatibility, reliability, and effective security functionality.
  • Design and implement user interfaces for hosting panels and customer portals using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Support customers and internal teams in extending and adapting custom client portals developed in PHP.
  • Develop event handlers and lightweight background applications that operate within a containerized infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate PHP-based components with broader security products and services.
  • Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, debugging, maintenance, and deployment.
  • Apply web security principles and best practices to build robust integrations that help protect applications and online services against automated threats.
  • Address technical challenges related to scalability, availability, performance, and system reliability, contributing to sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Use development tools and technologies such as Git, Docker, SQL, XML, regular expressions, and CI/CD pipelines to support efficient software delivery.
  • Participate in technical discussions, challenge existing approaches when appropriate, and collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement effective solutions.
  • Continuously develop technical expertise by exploring new technologies, sharing knowledge, and contributing to improvements across the engineering organization.
Requirements:
  • At least 4 years of professional PHP software development experience, including a proven track record of delivering and maintaining long-term software projects.
  • A solid understanding of how the World Wide Web works, including HTTP, web applications, client-server communication, and related technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of web security principles, common vulnerabilities, and approaches to protecting online applications and services.
  • Experience developing integrations, plugins, or extensions for web platforms, content management systems, or hosting control panels is highly relevant.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, XML, and regular expressions, with the ability to build and troubleshoot web-based interfaces and integrations.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and development tools such as Docker, along with an understanding of modern software development workflows.
  • The ability to think beyond individual features and consider broader engineering concerns, including scalability, availability, maintainability, and system performance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound technical judgment, and the confidence to question established approaches when better solutions are available.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to make decisions collectively, communicate technical ideas clearly, and work effectively with colleagues across different teams.
  • Strong time management and asynchronous communication skills suited to a fully remote, distributed engineering environment.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a genuine willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and continuously improve technical capabilities.
  • Previous experience in the hosting industry is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of C++ or Go is a strong plus, particularly for engineers interested in integrating PHP components with broader security systems.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kubernetes, or GitLab CI/CD would be beneficial.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work: Work remotely from within Europe, with flexibility suited to a distributed engineering team.
  • Meaningful technical impact: Contribute to cybersecurity products that help protect online businesses, hosting providers, and legitimate internet users.
  • Interesting engineering challenges: Work on integrations involving hosting control panels, web applications, security technologies, and distributed systems.
  • Continuous learning: Expand your expertise in web security, networking, PHP development, and complementary technologies such as C++ and Go.
  • Collaborative engineering culture: Work alongside colleagues who value knowledge sharing, constructive technical discussions, and collective problem-solving.
  • Technical ownership: Take responsibility across the software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to maintenance and improvement.
  • Modern technology stack: Gain exposure to technologies including RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Kubernetes, Docker, and GitLab CI/CD.
  • Inclusive workplace: Join a team that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences and encourages qualified candidates to apply.
