Job summary

Itron, based in Cork, Ireland, seeks a Senior Payroll Coordinator to deliver accurate, timely payroll for designated countries within a hybrid work setup. The role requires governance, controls, and compliance with local statutory requirements while supporting audits and system improvements.

You will interact with employees, HR, Finance, and external vendors, handling complex queries and ensuring payroll costs are reflected in the general ledger.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in payroll, preferably multinational/shared services.
  • Proven experience managing complex payrolls with multiple pay elements.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance and statutory requirements.
  • Experience working with third‑party payroll providers is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate payroll inputs, calculations, and outputs prior to final approval.
  • Coordinate payroll calendars, cut‑off dates, and statutory submission timelines.
  • Lead country Legislative and Change Requests for review by management.
  • Provide day‑to‑day payroll support and resolve complex queries with stakeholders.

Position Overview:

The Senior Payroll Coordinator will report directly to the Payroll Manager / Senior Payroll Manager within Itron’s Global Business Services organization based in Cork, Ireland. The role currently offers a hybrid work environment with a competitive remuneration package.

The Senior Payroll Coordinator is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of payroll for designated countries or entities. This role acts as a key subject‑matter expert, providing day‑to‑day payroll support, managing complex payroll queries, and ensuring strong governance, controls, and compliance with local statutory requirements.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Payroll Processing & Operations:

    • End‑to‑end processing of payroll for assigned countries/entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local legislation.
    • Review and validate payroll inputs, calculations, and outputs prior to final approval.
    • Ensure all payroll changes (new hires, terminations, salary changes, benefits, bonuses, overtime, leave, etc.) are processed correctly.
    • Coordinate payroll calendars, cut‑off dates, and statutory submission timelines.
    • May Indirectly lead a payroll team.
    • Manage Country mailboxes and checklists.
    • Migrate country payrolls as needed in the payroll function.
  • Compliance & Controls:

    • Ensure compliance with all statutory, tax, and social security requirements.
    • Support internal and external payroll audits, providing documentation and explanations as required.
    • Maintain payroll controls, reconciliations, and sign‑off procedures.
    • Lead country Legislative and Change Requests for review by management.
  • Stakeholder Management:

    • Act as a primary payroll contact for employees, HR, Finance, and external vendors.
    • Resolve complex payroll queries in a professional, timely, and confidential manner.
    • Liaise with third‑party payroll providers and ensure service levels are met.
    • Manage key internal relationships and maintain trackers.
  • Reporting & Reconciliations:

    • Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and variance analysis for Finance.
    • Ensure payroll costs are accurately reflected in the general ledger.
    • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes from a payroll perspective.
  • Process Improvement & Support:

    • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, documentation, and controls.
    • Contribute to payroll transitions, system enhancements, and global initiatives.
    • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to payroll team members as required.
    • Data gathering, investigations, process reviews and ad hoc requirements.
Key Requirements:
  • Experience:

    • 5+ years’ experience in payroll, preferably within a multinational or shared services environment.
    • Proven experience managing complex payrolls with multiple pay elements.
    • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance and statutory requirements.
    • Experience working with third‑party payroll providers is highly desirable.
  • Skills & Knowledge:

    • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
    • Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • Strong Excel skills and experience with payroll systems (e.g. Workday, SAP, ADP, other payroll platforms).
    • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Education / Qualifications:

    • Payroll or accounting qualification (e.g. IPASS, CIPP, or equivalent) desirable.
    • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
    • Third Level Education, equivalent or above.
    • Proven experience in a global payroll environment.

Depending on your experience, this role is expected to offer between gross 60,000 EUR and 65,000 EUR annually. We review compensation regularly to stay competitive in the market.
