The laboratory encompasses Biochemistry, Microbiology, Point of Care, Coagulation and ISO accredited Haematology, Blood Transfusion specialities.

We have a vacancy for a full time, 1 year fixed term Senior Medical Scientist (Biochemistry) position to join our friendly, supportive laboratory team and contribute to the development and expansion of our service and hospital. Our medium‑sized multidisciplinary laboratory provides the opportunity for the development of skills and knowledge across disciplines facilitating skills development and career progression.

Candidate requirements
  • Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree or equivalent
  • Be CORU‑registered Medical Scientist.
  • Eligible for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine
  • Evidence of current technical competence and CPD in Biochemistry
  • Experience of ISO15189 (essential) and JCI hospital accreditation (desirable)
  • Have a minimum of 4 years full time experience as a Medical Scientist
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient‑centered and can‑do approach
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and collaborative
  • Team player who is also able to work on their own initiative
Qualifications
  • Possess one of the following NFQ level 9 post graduate qualifications or equivalent qualification at a minimum level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM):
  • MSc Clinical Laboratory Science, Dublin Institute of Technology or Technological University Dublin.
  • MSc Biomedical Science, University of Ulster
  • MSc Biomedical Science – Cork Institute of Technology/University College Cork
  • MSc Biomedical Science – Munster Technological University/University College Cork
  • An equivalent qualification at minimum level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
  • A fellowship of the ACSLM awarded before July 2018 or have attained the fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science (Awarded prior to 1999).
