Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Maintain EHS management system in line with internal and regulatory requirements, ensuring procedures and other documents are kept up to date.
  • Prepare and deliver training programmes including induction and job‑specific EHS topics.
  • Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits to monitor the effectiveness of the EHS management system and highlight areas for attention/action.
  • Prepare EHS reports/metrics for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead on EHS issues, stay abreast of evolving standards and technological solutions, and share expertise with others.
  • Lead the Emergency Response Programme, ensuring the procedures, resources and training are in place to deal with all likely emergency scenarios on site.
  • Ensure a robust EHS incident investigation process is in place; monitor incident trends and lead investigations as necessary.
  • Assess the EHS impact of proposed changes to plant, process, equipment etc. and identify actions to ensure compliance and risk control.
  • Ensure effective risk assessment and risk‑reduction programmes are in place for the site.
  • Monitor EHS legislation, ensuring site compliance with current and future requirements.
  • Maintain waste‑management requirements and an environmental monitoring programme in line with licence requirements.
  • Lead EHS projects on site as required and support cross‑functional teams.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to align on priority EHS issues and plans to address them.
  • Promote and support a culture of accountability and collaboration in relation to safety and environmental performance and expectations.
  • Manage spend in line with budget and drive efficiencies and cost‑savings across EHS service and equipment providers.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
  • Third level qualification (minimum NFQ 8) in EHS, Engineering or Science discipline or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven track record of success as an EHS Manager in a large medical‑device (or related) manufacturing facility.
  • Ongoing professional development in the area of EHS.
  • 6+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent (6 years minimum within an engineering or science related role with NFQ 7).
  • 3+ years of direct supervision responsibilities.
  • Exceptional EHS experience and implementation of processes/systems to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to interpret EHS/regulatory requirements and lead programmes to meet those requirements and raise performance.
  • Experience in leading cross‑functional project teams.
  • Proven strong stakeholder‑management skills and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Extensive experience in implementing and maintaining EHS management systems.
  • Comprehensive experience dealing with EHS regulators (e.g. H.S.A., EPA, local councils, etc.).
  • Relevant professional‑body qualification or accreditation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, time‑management and organisational skills.
  • Autonomous decision maker and go‑to person for other team members.
  • Directs work activities and projects based on a clear understanding of stakeholder and customer needs.
  • Works to identify and implement process improvements associated with EHS systems and procedures.

Functional Safety Manager – Cadence (Edinburgh, Cambridge, Bracknell, Cork)

Job Title: Sr Principal Design Engineer / Functional Safety Manager

Job Overview

The Functional Safety Manager will be responsible for the ISO 26262 safety management of Cadence design IP products targeted for automotive products, and the development of ISO 26262‑compliant processes, infrastructure and work products. He/she will work with the safety organisations of customers, vendors, external safety‑expert consultants and internal product development teams to ensure that the functional safety process is well understood, executed and documented.

Job Responsibilities
  • Act as Functional Safety Manager for safety‑related hardware and software products.
  • Analyze impact of ISO 26262 releases for DIP and create functional safety awareness across the department.
  • Perform safety management activities according to relevant standards at all project phases (concept, product development, production), such as developing safety plans, defining the necessary safety‑related activities, work products and processes.
  • Manage creation of safety work products including the Safety Plan, Safety Manual, Safety Requirements and Safety Analysis (FMEDA, DFA) and safety verification and validation activities.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, marketing & development teams, safety consultants, vendors and customers on functional safety activities.
  • Define and implement functional safety processes associated with hardware development.
  • Create / review functional safety documentation according to ISO 26262.
  • Conduct reviews with product teams to ensure functional safety standards are met throughout product development cycles.
Job Qualifications
  • BSEE/BS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering (or equivalent); MS preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with ISO 26262; preferable if holding a safety certification.
  • Experience in functional safety compliance, testing or auditing or QA of embedded HW/SW systems.
  • Experience in safety analysis of hardware including FMEA, FMEDA and DFA.
  • Experience working with certification bodies to gain product certification to ISO 26262.
  • Experience with standards‑based embedded HW/SW systems Product Development Life Cycle (HW IP design and verification processes, ASIC design methodologies, and software development tools and methods).
  • Familiarity with configuration, requirements and documentation management tools (e.g. GitHub, Jama, DOORS, JIRA).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and clear, concise documentation writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers, management, customers and partners.
Additional Skills / Preferences
  • Proven record of taking customer safety requirements from concept to final product.
  • Experience working with certification bodies to gain product certification to ISO 26262.
  • Experience in fault injection techniques.
  • Experience in development of software safety diagnostic routines.
  • Experience in software quality and process (e.g., SPICE, CMMI).
  • Experience applying MISRA standards in software development.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management standard.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and ISO 21434.
