Job summary

Gaia Talent is seeking an experienced Senior LVIA Consultant to lead landscape and visual impact assessments for major development and infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK. The role combines technical LVIA delivery with project management and client engagement.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams including GIS, planning and visualisation specialists, review layouts, and contribute to proposals while mentoring junior staff. Hybrid working and industry exposure are offered.

Qualifications

• Degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning, Environmental Planning, Geography or another relevant discipline.
• Experience in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA).
• Experience preparing LVIA for planning applications and EIAs.
• Understanding of landscape character assessment and visual assessment methodologies.
• Experience undertaking landscape field surveys and viewpoint selection.
• Strong report-writing skills with LVIA/EIA chapters.

• Prepare landscape and visual baseline assessments, viewpoints and impact analyses.
• Undertake site surveys and fieldwork, including viewpoint selection and landscape character assessment.

• Manage projects, programmes, budgets and technical deliverables.

About the Role:

A leading environmental and planning consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior LVIA Consultant to join its specialist landscape and visual team. This is an opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of major development and infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK, with particular exposure to renewable energy, energy infrastructure and strategic development projects.

The successful candidate will take a leading role in the preparation and delivery of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA), contributing to projects from early-stage feasibility and design development through planning, consultation and determination.

The position combines technical LVIA delivery with project management, client engagement and collaboration with multidisciplinary environmental, planning, GIS and visualisation specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and contribute to Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) for major development and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare landscape and visual baseline assessments, viewpoint analysis and impact assessments.
• Undertake site surveys and fieldwork, including viewpoint selection and landscape character assessment.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and LVIA chapters for EIA / EIAR submissions.
• Provide landscape and visual input throughout feasibility, design and planning stages.
• Work closely with specialist visualisation teams on photomontages, verified views and supporting visual material.
• Review project layouts and provide advice on landscape and visual constraints, mitigation and design development.
• Manage projects, programmes, budgets and technical deliverables.
• Coordinate with environmental, planning, ecology, engineering, GIS and design specialists.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, planning teams and other project stakeholders.
• Review technical work and support the development of junior consultants.
• Contribute to proposals, tenders and the continued growth of the landscape and visual service.

Requirements:

• Degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning, Environmental Planning, Geography or another relevant discipline.
• Strong professional experience in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA).
• Experience preparing LVIA assessments for planning applications and environmental impact assessments.
• Good understanding of landscape character assessment, visual assessment methodologies and relevant industry guidance.
• Experience undertaking landscape and visual field surveys and selecting representative viewpoints.
• Strong technical report-writing skills, ideally including authorship of EIA / EIAR chapters.
• Ability to interpret development layouts, mapping, technical drawings and design information.
• Experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary environmental and planning teams.
• Strong project management and organisational capability.
• Confident client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
• Experience working on renewable energy projects, particularly onshore wind, solar or associated grid infrastructure.
• Experience with major infrastructure, transport or strategic development projects.
• Knowledge of the Irish planning and environmental assessment system.
• Experience working with GIS, CAD and specialist visualisation teams.
• Understanding of photomontage, verified view and planning visualisation methodologies.
• Experience supporting projects through consultation, planning appeals or oral hearings.
• Chartered status or progress towards membership of a relevant professional body.
• Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior team members.
