Job summary

Blackrock Health's Galway Clinic invites applications for a Senior Medical Scientist – Histology. This temporary, full-time role (12 months) focuses on leading histology and immunohistochemistry activities, maintaining quality standards, and supporting diagnostic biomarker development.

The candidate will possess a BSc in Biomedical or related Science, an MSc, CORU registration, ACSLM eligibility, and at least 5 years post-qualification histology experience, with flexibility in work practices.

Qualifications

• Relevant Scientific Qualification (BSc in Biomedical or related Science) - essential.
• MSc – essential.
• Must be registered with CORU.
• Must be eligible for membership of the ACSLM.
• Post Qualification Medical Scientist experience in Histology – 5 years is essential.
• Professional approach to work.
• Flexibility in work practice.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine duties for the Histology Laboratory.
• Organise and co-ordinate the Histology Laboratory.
• Implement and maintain a quality management system in the Histology Laboratory.
• Develop the Histology Laboratory to meet patient needs and align with the Clinic's mission.
• Ensure samples are processed per standard operating procedures.
• Evaluate assays, equipment, consumables and research projects.
• Provide technical leadership for the Immunohistochemistry service.
• Oversee validation and verification of IHC assays and new antibodies.
• Optimise staining protocols and troubleshoot complex IHC panels.
• Support pathologists in biomarkers development and implementation.
• Monitor IHC quality control and EQA performance.
• Participate in internal/external quality control and QA.
