Job summary

Egis Engineering – Ireland seeks a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ post-graduate experience. You will lead geotechnical input on highways, rail, active travel schemes, and drainage works across Ireland, delivering complex design solutions.

The role involves mentoring junior staff, collaborating with civil, structural and environmental teams, and ensuring high-quality outputs and safety standards in line with Eurocodes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 10 years’ post-graduate experience in geotechnical design engineering.
• Proven experience on large civil infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical input on large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review geotechnical design calculations, reports, specs and drawings.
• Mentor junior staff within the geotechnical team.
• Undertake ground investigation scoping, design, supervision and interpretation.
• Collaborate with civil, structural and environmental teams.
• Liaise with stakeholders during design and construction and ensure Eurocode compliance.

Job Title: Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer

We are now looking to grow our talented Geotechnical team with a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer with a minimum of 10 years post graduate experience.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering complex geotechnical design solutions across major infrastructure projects including highways, motorways, rail, active travel schemes, and drainage works.

This is a crucial position within our Geotechnical team, supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary design projects for both public and private sector clients across Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical input on large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review geotechnical design calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior staff within the geotechnical team.
• Undertake ground investigation scoping, design, supervision, and interpretation.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and environmental engineering teams.
• Liaise with project stakeholders, clients, and contractors during design and construction phases.
• Ensure that all geotechnical design work is delivered to the highest quality and safety standards in accordance with Eurocodes and Irish/UK standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
• Minimum 10 years’ post-graduate experience in geotechnical design engineering.
• Proven experience working on large civil infrastructure projects within a busy consultancy environment.
• Strong experience in the design and analysis of earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, and ground improvement techniques.
• Proficient in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, WALLAP, Settle3, etc.).
• Chartership (CEng or approaching Chartered status) with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on TII, Irish Rail or NTA-led projects.
• Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design workflows.
• Project management and client-facing experience.
