Job summary

Apple is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Dublin to architect and develop large-scale web applications across frontend and backend components. You will own end-to-end delivery, guide architecture decisions, and collaborate with design, product, and operations teams in a fast-paced environment.

You will mentor contractors, drive reliability improvements, and contribute to hiring. The role emphasizes leadership in addition to hands-on engineering across a global, integrated tech stack.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience in Java or Node.js with frontend frameworks (React or Vue).
• Experience designing microservices and APIs (REST/GraphQL) and data modeling.
• Proficient in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and related services.
• Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and DevOps automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Guide the technical direction and implementation of complex features spanning frontend interfaces (React, Vue, or server-rendered templates) and Python and PHP backend services
• Design scalable APIs, data models, and service architectures — including internal MCP servers that expose tools and data to AI systems
• Drive features through their full lifecycle: from concept and design through deployment and operational excellence
• Apply and help raise engineering best practices across the full stack — frontend architecture, API design, testing strategies, and performance
• Identify technical risks and dependencies early; develop mitigation strategies and drive resolution
• Mentor and share knowledge with colleagues across both frontend and backend disciplines
• Contribute to cross-organization initiatives, expanding your impact beyond the immediate team
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to inform roadmap priorities and technical direction
• Lead post-incident reviews and drive improvements in reliability and operational quality
• Evaluate and integrate AI services and capabilities — such as MCP-based tooling — to enhance the user experience
• Contribute to hiring: interview candidates, calibrate the technical bar across the stack

You'll own applications end-to-end, working full stack and contributing to a robust technology ecosystem

Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic and expanding team. In this role, you will be part of a larger engineering team working on highly integrated applications in a fast-paced environment. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Design and Product, to design and develop complex, distributed, high-quality solutions with tight deadlines. You must demonstrate a decisive leadership mindset, as approximately 30% of this role is dedicated to managing and directing teams of contractors to ensure project success and delivery excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrate deep hands‑on expertise in Java, or Node.js, and frontend Javascript frameworks such as React.js or Vue.js.
• Solid proficiency in using SQL or NoSQL Databases.
• Strong experience in designing and developing microservices and APIs (RESTful and/or GraphQL).
• Extensive experience utilizing Cloud Platforms (AWS or Azure or GCP), and CloudServices (e.g, functions/lambdas)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of containerization concepts like Kubernetes, Docker and others.
• Experience with DevOps process automation using Terraform, Pulumi, or alternatives.
• Experience with continuous integration (e.g. Jenkins) and testing frameworks (e.g.JUnit). Experience working with distributed, global teams.
• Experience working with observability and monitoring systems such as Dynatrace orDataDog. Experience working in highly integrated systems.
• Strong communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work andsolve problems independently.
