Job summary

The Senior Consultant, Compliance will play a key role in supporting the Head of Compliance in the delivery and ongoing enhancement of the Compliance Programme. The role will provide senior-level support across Compliance Risk Assessment, Compliance Monitoring, regulatory change, compliance policies, management reporting, governance committee reporting, and regulatory engagement.

This role will report to the Head of Compliance and will be expected to act as a trusted senior compliance partner, providing constructive challenge, clear advice, and practical support to the business, Senior Management, and the wider compliance team. The role will also support the Head of Compliance in preparing for and attending key governance forums and may deputise for, or represent, the Head of Compliance at such forums where required.

This is a second line of defence role requiring strong judgement, senior stakeholder management, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to operate independently while escalating appropriately.

The key responsibilities of the role include:
Senior support to the Head of Compliance
  • Support the Head of Compliance in maintaining and embedding a comprehensive compliance framework for the relevant Ireland legal entities, leveraging the wider Northern Trust Group compliance framework where appropriate.
  • Deputise for, represent, or support the Head of Compliance at governance forums, senior management meetings, risk committees, board-related forums, and other compliance meetings where required.
  • Provide senior compliance advice, constructive challenge, and practical guidance to business stakeholders on regulatory obligations, compliance risks, and control effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the preparation of clear, concise and high-quality management information for Executive, Risk Committee, Board, and other governance reporting.
Compliance Risk Assessment
  • Drive the Legal Entity specific Compliance Risk Assessment framework in line with Northern Trust policies/ standards and regulator expectations.
  • Work with regional and global compliance colleagues in other geographical locations to enable the development of global standards, knowledge transfer and best practice.
  • Coordinate appropriate reporting at various governance committees, including Board and Risk Committee forums.
  • Ensure the rules inventory underpinning the Compliance Risk Assessment are maintained and updated as required.
Compliance Monitoring and assurance
  • Support the preparation and delivery of the Annual Compliance Assurance Programme / Compliance Monitoring Programme for relevant legal entities.
  • Perform compliance monitoring reviews to a high standard, ensuring timely, accurate, concise, and well-evidenced reporting.
Regulatory engagement and governance
  • Support the Head of Compliance in managing regulatory engagement, including preparation for regulatory meetings, information requests, examinations, reviews, and other interactions with the Central Bank of Ireland.
  • Assist in preparing Board, Risk Committee, and Senior Management materials relating to compliance risks, regulatory developments, Compliance Programme delivery, and key issues requiring attention.
  • Support appropriate escalation to the Head of Compliance and senior stakeholders where compliance risks, control weaknesses, delays, or regulatory issues arise.
Other
  • Build and maintain constructive relationships with key internal stakeholders, including Senior Management, business leaders, Compliance Testing, Audit Services, Legal, Risk, and Finance.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the relevant legal entity operations, products/services, systems and associated risks/controls.
  • Develop a good understanding of the regulatory change framework and the new regulations impacting the relevant legal entities.
  • Work effectively as an individual contributor as well as in a team environment.
Skills/ Qualifications
  • Compliance monitoring, Audit, Risk or Control experience and/or experience of providing advisory support to business areas would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Ireland/EU regulations and key regulatory developments relating to fund service providers (eg fund administration company, depositary company, fund management company) would be an advantage.
  • Capable of making decisions, applies sound judgement and knows how/when to elevate.
  • Can operate within strict reporting deadlines whilst balancing multiple, competing priorities.
  • Influencing and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven and strong learning agility with a keen desire to support the development of others.
  • Highly motivated individual, self-starter and team player.
