We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support a sustainability project at a pharmaceutical manufacturing site.
The project involves the installation and commissioning of a centralised heat pump system and associated mechanical services to improve energy efficiency and support the site's sustainability objectives. The role will focus on ensuring the system is fully tested, optimised and operating in accordance with design specifications and performance requirements.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience commissioning heat pump technology and associated mechanical building services, ensuring the system is installed, tested and operating safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute commissioning activities for centralised heating and energy systems, including associated mechanical services and distribution networks
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, test scripts and method statements.
- Verify mechanical installations, pipework, pumps, valves, controls and associated equipment against design documentation and specifications.
- Coordinate functional testing, system performance checks and commissioning activities with mechanical contractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.
- Verify system operation, including temperature control, flow rates, pressure, heat transfer performance and overall system efficiency.
- Support the integration and testing of control systems, BMS interfaces, instrumentation and associated safety interlocks.
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve commissioning issues, ensuring all defects are appropriately recorded and closed out.
- Maintain commissioning records, test reports, technical documentation and handover packs.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with site safety requirements, pharmaceutical site procedures and applicable quality standards.
- Support final system handover and provide input to operational training and documentation.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer within mechanical building services, HVAC, energy systems or a similar engineering environment.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience commissioning heat pump technology and associated mechanical building services.
- Strong understanding of hydronic systems, including pumps, pipework, valves, heat exchangers, flow balancing and temperature control.
- Experience with functional testing, system performance verification, fault finding and commissioning documentation.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), control systems and instrumentation.
- Experience working on pharmaceutical, life sciences or other regulated industrial sites is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside contractors, equipment vendors and client engineering teams.
