Job summary

Egis Group seeks a Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer to lead planning, design and delivery of water and wastewater projects for Uisce Éireann and local authorities across Ireland. You will manage multidisciplinary teams, ensure quality, and drive sustainability.

Qualifications

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Civil / Environmental Engineer to join our Water Services team. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Uisce Éireann, local authorities, and contractor clients across Ireland.

The role will involve managing and delivering projects through all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through preliminary and detailed design, procurement support, and construction‑phase services. The successful candidate will have proven experience in the delivery of Uisce Éireann projects, strong technical capabilities, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
  • Lead the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Uisce Éireann and contractor clients.
  • Manage projects from inception through feasibility, planning, preliminary design, detailed design, tendering, and construction support.
  • Act as Project Manager, Design Lead, or Discipline Lead on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, resources, and project risks.
  • Ensure project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Undertake and oversee the design of:
    • Wastewater treatment facilities
    • Pumping stations
    • Rising mains and gravity sewer networks
    • Watermains and associated infrastructure
    • Stormwater management systems
    • Nature based solutions
    • Asset upgrade and rehabilitation projects
  • Prepare and review technical reports, feasibility studies, options assessments, design calculations, specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs including civil, structural, process, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and geotechnical disciplines.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning stages.
Uisce Éireann Project Delivery
  • Ensure designs align with Uisce Éireann standards, specifications, and capital delivery requirements.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement with Uisce Éireann, local authorities, contractors, regulators, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support projects delivered under Public Works Contracts and Design & Build procurement models.
  • Prepare documentation for statutory approvals, planning applications, environmental assessments, and project gateways where required.
Environmental & Sustainability Responsibilities
  • Incorporate sustainable engineering principles into project delivery.
  • Support environmental assessments and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to climate resilience, carbon reduction, and sustainable infrastructure initiatives.
  • Promote best practice in environmental management throughout project development and delivery.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and graduate staff.
  • Undertake technical reviews and quality assurance of project deliverables.
  • Support business development activities, framework bids, and client relationship management.
  • Contribute to the growth and technical excellence of the Water Services team.
What do we need from you
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with Engineers Ireland, ICE, or equivalent, or nearing chartership.
  • Minimum 7/8 years' relevant experience in the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience delivering projects for Uisce Éireann and/or Irish local authorities.
  • Strong understanding of Uisce Éireann standards, specifications, and project delivery processes.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent report writing, technical communication, and project management skills.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements in infrastructure projects.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to undertake site visits as required.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working on Design & Build and contractor‑led projects.
  • Project management qualifications (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
  • Experience with wastewater network modelling and hydraulic design.
  • Familiarity with planning, environmental assessment, and statutory approval processes.
  • Knowledge of NEC, Public Works Contracts, and FIDIC contract forms.
  • Experience working within BIM environments and Common Data Environments (CDEs).
