Job summary

Toast's AI Agent & Experience team seeks a senior backend engineer to design and ship scalable AI platform features, including the LLM proxy, AI key management, and observability pipelines. You will extend autonomous agents to participate in the SDLC, build internal plugins, and implement MCP services, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable AI-powered workflows.

The role requires 5+ years in backend design, a Bachelor’s degree, and strong Java/Kotlin

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience.
5+ years designing and implementing scalable backend services.
Experience with LLM-powered agents or AI-assisted tooling is preferred.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and ship features across AI platform infrastructure (LLM proxy, AI key management, observability pipelines).
Develop autonomous agents that participate in the SDLC and integrate with internal plugins and MCP services.
Write high-quality, tested code and participate in design and code reviews.
Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and platform teams to meet developer needs with reliable solutions.
Contribute to agentic development practices and tooling to improve velocity.
