Work Placement Experience Programme

This Work Placement Experience Programme provides participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance. Eligibility will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.

Job Description

Salon Assistant – this is a training and work experience opportunity under the Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP). The participant will assist experienced salon staff in reception, customer service and social media tasks. They will observe and support day-to-day operations in a professional salon environment, learning how to provide excellent client care and maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the Salon.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with greeting clients and managing appointment schedules.
  • Support staff in handling phone calls, emails and social media messages/content.
  • Observe in house procedures and client interaction.
  • Assist in preparing salon materials and maintaining cleanliness.
  • Help capture and upload simple social media content under supervision.
  • Learn about salon organisation, teamwork and customer service standards.

All duties are to be carried out under supervision. The participant will not hold responsibility for core salon operations.

Training Provided

1. Formal / Accredited Training (Minimum 20 hours):

  • QQI Work Experience Module (Level 5) – via local ETB
  • Health & Safety in the Workplace
  • Customer Service & Communication Skills
  • Social Media Marketing Basics for Small Business

2. Informal / On-the-Job Training (Approx. 40 hours):

  • Front‑of‑house systems and appointment booking software
  • Handling customer enquiries and client care
  • Salon hygiene and presentation standards
  • Professional use of social media and content creation
  • Time management and teamwork in a professional environment

Total: 60 hours of training, including 20 hours accredited.
