Job summary

Inland Fisheries Ireland invites applications for a Research Officer to join the Research and Development division. The RO will provide high quality scientific input to support IFI’s remit on Atlantic salmon and sea trout, with desk and field work in NSIC Erriff, Leenane, Co. Mayo.

The role requires excellent design and execution of applied studies, strong scientific writing and data analysis skills, and experience in project management and stakeholder engagement. Travel is involved.

Qualifications

• Primary degree in a relevant area
• Circa 5 years’ experience at a professional level
• Full driving licence valid in Ireland
• Demonstrable field surveys in aquatic habitats
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality scientific input to support IFI’s remit to protect, conserve and manage Atlantic salmon and sea trout.
• Participate in and operational management of existing and envisaged research programmes, including NSIC Erriff.
• Provide scientific advice on stock status and reporting; assess pressures/threats to stocks and support related policy.
• Mentor, train and motivate research staff under supervision.
• Plan, resource and schedule fieldwork; ensure SOPs for activities are kept up to date.
