The Statistics, Data & Analysis Unit (SDAU) of the CRF-UCC supports patient-focus research in the areas of study design, study conduct, data management, data analysis and reporting. The development and deployment of electronic data capture (EDC) tools, including REDCap, are central to these supports. To meet growing demand in this area we are pleased to open applications for the position of Information Systems Manager.
The successful applicant will work within the SDAU and contribute to selecting, developing and deploying information technology (IT) solutions. They will contribute to the development of the CRF-UCC’s research computing infrastructure and serve as the primary link to UCC IT Services. This position will be responsible for implementation, maintenance and development of EDC supports underpinning patient-focused research that enable efficient and compliant data capture processes. This role involves collaborating with researchers, data managers, statisticians, UCC research computing personnel and other stakeholders to support EDC-related needs.
The successful candidate will have excellent IT and communication skills, experience of software support in a networked environment and experience deploying new technology solutions within a research setting. You will also need be able to work with colleagues from a diverse variety of research backgrounds and to develop and deliver solutions which are both practical and effective. This position would suit a self-motivated, creative individual with a customer-focused approach to research computing.
- To provide specific research skills to support the on-going development of the research team and to contribute to the transfer of knowledge in the specific research area.
- To undertake research under the direction of a Principal Investigator or Head of Research Centre.
- To provide support in a specific area of expertise, including the use, maintenance and management of research, including equipment.
- To perform a variety of technical duties supporting the research project or programme, as required.
- To draw up detailed technical specifications as required.
- To support research project activities.
- To oversee installation of equipment, where required.
- To assist in setting up and maintenance of equipment, where required.
- To assist PI’s and researchers in performing lab work, where required.
- To coordinate lab activity to support the research area/project where required.
- To develop contacts to acquire knowledge and understanding of the research project and research related work.
- To facilitate collaboration by liaising with other research groups within UCC and externally including industry projects.
- To develop and maintain a good working relationship with service departments in UCC.
- To co-ordinate day-to-day work to support the research project.
- To liaise with the Principal Investigator(s) and colleagues on matters relating to the research.
- To develop knowledge and understanding of the research project and research related work.
- To ensure compliance with Health and Safety procedures.
- To perform other duties related to the work described herein.
REDCap Administration
- Manage the planning and execution of REDCap projects, ensuring alignment with organisational requirements and research objectives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements and customise REDCap solutions accordingly.
- Serve as the primary administrator for REDCap, overseeing user access, security settings, system configurations and system testing.
- Stay informed about updates and new features in REDCap, implementing changes as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to REDCap.
- Implement installation and maintenance of external modules while maintaining system stability and uptime.
User Support and Training
- Support the preparation and delivery of workshops to provide user training and stakeholder communication.
- Act as a point of contact for user inquiries, troubleshooting problems and providing timely solutions.
- Develop and maintain user guides and documentation.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with data management standards, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements in the context of EDC in clinical trials.
- Review and respond to changes in relevant policies and regulations.
- Ensure that project documentation created meets quality standards required of the CRF-UCC Quality Management System.
- Assist in the procurement of materials and infrastructure where required.
- Development of Service Level Agreements with stakeholders.
- Develop appropriate KPI’s for data quality and establish the metrics and measurement techniques for these KPI’s.
Specific Requirements
CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL
- A graduate qualification in a field or discipline relevant to the area of investigation i.e. BSc, MSc or PhD.
- Proven experience of carrying out research in the relevant research speciality.
- Demonstrable achievements in delivering results.
- Ability to interact with stakeholders from a range of disciplines
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Capability of working effectively within a team to achieve results.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- High level of initiative.
- Degree in Computer Science, IT or a related subject (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of related work experience in system support, data management, analysis and problem resolution.
- Working knowledge of major database systems such as MySQL, PostgresSQL.
- Ability to develop and maintain documented procedures.
- In depth understanding of software development practices and source control.
- Substantial experience of working within technology solutions relevant for research (including software support within a networked environment).
- Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally to both technical and non-technical personnel at all levels in the organisation.
- Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
DESIRABLE
- Experienced REDCap user or demonstrable knowledge of other EDC software platforms
- Development of API integrations with R/RStudio applications.
- Advanced project management skills.
- An understanding of the legal, policy and ethical frameworks governing health research data.
- Knowledge of international best practice concerning computerised systems and electronic data capture in clinical trials.
- Experience of working in a clinical trials environment.
