Job summary

UNSW (The University of New South Wales) invites applications for a Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics within the Flow Noise Group of the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Sydney. The role focuses on measurement, prediction and analysis of flow-generated noise and reports to the group leader, with emphasis on independent, high-quality research.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant research experience.
  • Experience in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements and/or wind tunnel testing.
  • Experience in high-speed data acquisition and signal processing.
  • Desirable experience with numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
  • Evidence of ongoing knowledge updates in the discipline.
  • Proven ability to conduct high-quality independent research with limited supervision.
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork across disciplines.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research on measurement, prediction and analysis of flow-generated noise.
  • Work with the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Support a research agreement related to aeroacoustics.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate findings.

The Research Associate (Level A) in aeroacoustics is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to their particular field of research. The role will support a research agreement concerning the measurement, prediction and analysis of flow generated noise. The Research Associate will be based with the Flow Noise Group in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UNSW Sydney. The Research Associate reports to Manuj Awasthi and has no direct reports.

Skills & Experience
  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Experience in experimental aeroacoustics, turbulence measurements and/or wind tunnel testing.
  • Experience in high-speed data acquisition and signal processing.
  • It is desirable, but not essential, to have experience in numerical modelling tools for fluid flow and acoustic analysis.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
